President Joe LaCIalr has com municated with the "old white bearded gent" and has been as sured that all of the children pres ent will be in for s special gilt. The committee handling details and assisting Santa Claus Is com posed of Tom Oarrett, Walter Fleet, Howard Austin, Keith Cobo and Bob Bonney. The Sacred Heart Madrigals will provide a music program of Christ mas songs. The Madrigals are un der the direction of Sister Ceclla Francis and have been well re ceived by the children and Kiwanis at past Christmas parties. Kiwanis members are reminded that they should Invite neighbor's children or other children if their own children are grown or cannot attend. Klwanlan John Houston will lead the children In the singing of Christmas songs. New Church Funds Received DUNSMUIR Subscriptions and gifts from MO families totaling J45, 331 have been received from the i members and friends of the Metho dist church toward the $50,000 . building fund campaign, It Was an ! nounced by the drive committee on i nursaay. The campaign leaders believe their goal is attainable since a number of calls are yet to be made. They report a particularly heartening response from those not uctually members of the church but participating In the church pro gram and also noted that a hiuh percentage of those people contact ed either pledged or made dona tions. Crash Victims' Rites Held MOUNT SHASTA Funeral services were held in Mount Shas ta Tuesday afternoon, December 13, at the Methodist Church for Virgil Van Hough. 56, and Robert Mark Kidwell, 28, with the Rev. N. P. Knudsen officiating. Both men were killed in an auto accident on Highway 97 north of Weed early Saturday morning De cember 10 when their northbound auto skidded on icy pavement and collided with an oncoming truck. Virgil Van Hough was born In Mississippi February 25. 1899. and was a resident of Mount Shasta for 19 years. He was employed as a watchman for the Mount Shasta Pine Manufacturing Company. Sur vivors Include his widow, Hazel Hough, one daughter. Mrs. Geral dine English, and two granddaugh ters of Mount Shasta: one son, Govan Hough, Pennsylvania; two brothers, George Hough, Mount Shasta and Chester Hough, Plo nker, T.oulsiani and two sisters. Mrs. Bessie Thompson, Forrest, Louisiana: and Mrs. Estcll Garret, Oak Grove. Louisiana. Robert Mark Kidwell. was born in Arkansas November 9, 1927. Survivors Include his widow, Bar bara and one 18 month-old daugh ter, Robbie Elaine, Mount Shasta; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kidwell, Wilmot, Arkansas: one brother. J. T. Kidwell. Wilmot. Arkansas; live sisters. Mrs. Hazel Hough, Mrs. Florie Hough. Mount Shasta: Mrs. Evelyn Wolf, Duns, mulr; Mrs. Vernle Bean. Ander son, and Mrs. Dorothy Franklin, Missouri. Kidwell had been a resident of Mount Shasta for the past 10 years and was employed as a timber taller for the Smith Lumber Com pany. Kindlv Motorist Aids Runaways NEVADA CITY (UF1-A kindly motorist bought hot soup for a bedraggled pair of youthful hitch hikers last night unaware they were Uie object of a widespread search by officers who believed them armed and dangerous. Pete Ingram, Nevada City news paper reporter, picked up the pair, a boy 15 and a girl 13, on his way to Washington, Calif. He bought them hot soup in Washing ton and then started back with them for Nevada City. Officers stopped him at a road block and tnld him his compan ions were wanted for escaping from the Yuba County Detention Home In Marysvllle, for stealing a car, for burglarizing a ranch house and taking a shotgun. Ing ram look the pair on to Nevada City and turned them over to authorities. Drunken Driving Charges Filed DUNSMUIR Two drunken driv ing fines were levied In Dunsmulr Judicial court last week. Albert U. Ketchum of Dunsmulr and Jack Rodine of McCloud both paid $293 fines upon being found guilty of driving under the influ ence ot, alcohol. Judge A. A. Smith also recommended license suspen sions for both men. Alta. fi The Canadian prairies, still reeling from a fierce billiard early this week, wre locked Salurday in the grip of arctic cold with tempera tures dropping swlflly from above sero lo 20 below. In Weed Tuesday night, Decem ber 20, at the lawn area adjacent to the Long-Bell Lumber Company office, the Long-Bell Company will he host for selected Christmas stockings packed full of choice candies and prizes to be given to 1,000 children under 12 years of age who are of Long-Bell families and have official tickets for the affair. Tickets were Issued to the employes this week. In Tennant 125 children of the Long Bell em ployes there will receive the same kind of packed stockings and at Etna the party will be for 22 children. This will be the seventh annual Christmas party for the children of the lumber company employes given by the Long-Bell Weed Di vision of which John Mantle Is the general manger. Jack Calkins heads the party committee for thls year and with the assistance of numerous Long-Bell employes has planned a bigger and better party this year. .
