DECEMBER 8. 1955 Robiscn Enters Xmas Contest Frank Roblson, 2555 Eberleln, was the first contestant this year to sign up In the Klamath County Junior Chamber of , Commerce Christmas home lighting and dec orating contest. " Roblson came to Klamath Falls In June of 1952 from Berkeley, California to visit his daughter and son-in-law- Just prior to the birth of their Ilrst child. Although his daughter and son-in-law moved away from Klamath Falls soon af ter Roblson came here, he and his wife decided thev lilted the Ba sin so well they built a home here and settled down. Robison won the sweepstakes award for the best decorated home In 1953 and won an honorable mention In 1954. He won the 1953 award with his portrayal of a bar bershop scene. & many people drove by In the evenings to see this scene that city police had to be called out to direct the traffic. Tlie work on his Christmas dis play is started in the summer and Roblson said he does the work for the pleasure of It and as a nobby. Ahlstrom Takes 'Last' Trip DUNSMUIR A "last" trip was taken by Tlngner T. Ahlstrom, Southern Pacific engineer, on Fri day, November 30. He was met by a crowd of well-wishers at the dispatcher's office congratulating him on 50 years of Southern Pa cific service. Ahlstrom went to work on Shas ta Division as a call boy In Au gust, 1905. He hired out as a fire man In May. 1907 and was pro moted to engineer In 1917. He and Mrs, Ahlstrom own their home in Dunsmulr and have an nounced no particular retirement plans. The Klamath County Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors this contest annually. , Lutheran Women Plan Donations DUNSMUIR Christmas dona tions were planned at the meet ing of the Lutheran Women's Mis sionary League at the home of Mrs. John Seed. Clothing and money will be sent to the Bay View Lutheran Mission in San Francisco and food baskets will be provided for those In need In Dunsmuir. Mrs. A. J. Butters presented the meeting's topic. "Mary, Mother of Jesus." Devotionals were given by the Rev. Martin Schabacker nnd the thought for the day by Mrs. John Knack. Mrs. J. R. Loney, president, conducted the meeting. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Loney and Mrs. Seed. The January meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. John Knack with Mrs. Leif Loney as co-hostess. MalinFFA Slate Meeting The Malln Chapter, Future Farm era of America, has scheduled leadership conference for Decem ber 9 and 10 to be held at the Malln High School. Central Oregon FFA chapters Invited to attend the conference are Lakevlew, Madras, Culver, Bend. Redmond and Prineville. - A banquet is slated for Friday night at 6:30. The evening activ ities will Include parliamentary contests between the chapters and a public speaking contest. Judges for the contests will be vocational agriculture instructors Chris Starr, Alturas; Al Christy, Cedarville; and Vera Hemstreet, Tulelake. Saturday morning, the chapters will convene in a general session at 8 o'clock. The general meeting will be followed by group sessions in which the boys will participate with local leaders acting In the capacity of advisers. Herb Pollard, field representa tive, First National Bank, Klam ath Falls, will meet with the FFA president and vice president group. Loy Barker, Klamath Falls in surance agent, will meet with the treasurers group. Ed Hickman, office manager, Weyerhaeuser Timber Company, Klamath Falls, will meet with the secretary group. Robert Croft, teacher, Malln High School, will meet with the reporters and sentinels. The victim was Mrs. Christine B. Atwater. widow of the late H. Kent Atwater, former mayor of Burlingame. m- .ttVfcREND HUGO M. WARNKE will be installed as pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church at 4:40 p.m. Sunday in a special service at the church. The installation will be conducted by the Rev. E. Paul Reidell of Grace Luth eran Church in Ashland. Warnke has been the pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church in ' Covina, California, for four years. Broken Pole, Auto Found An automobile registered to Phyl lis and Len Phipps. 1663 Green springs, was found early this morn ing by Klamath Falls police after it had hit a utilities pole in the 500 block on Riverside. Investigating officers said that there was no one around the car when they found it at approximate ly 2:35 a.m. The pole had broken on about tour feet from the top, they said. . NIGHT TILL 9 P.M. -J LONDON on A world authority on aircraft said today that Russia's progress in jet planes soon will give the Soviets a "formidable bomber striking force." It said the Soviets are turning out planes at 360 factories scat tered from the Polish border to the Far East. The new edition of "Jane's All the World's Aircraft" cited the latest known types of Soviet jet bombers displayed In formation strength over Moscow last July. These include the Type 37 four-jet heavy bomber believed capable of carrying an atom bomb and the Type 3D medium twin-jet bomber. Jane's emphasised that the Rus sians are turning these planes out at what Is probably not the eventual full capacity production rate. It added America's aircraft industry "has probably reached Its greatest production peak in peace time." The publication gave this ap praisal of output: ' "The capacity for production on the large .scale of medium and heavy Jet bombers may not yet be so great as for fighters . '.(butt the Type 39 has been shown off. publicly In a formation of 64, and though the production figures have probably reached nothing like those for the (American) Boeing B47, it is felt in the West that Russia will very shortly possess a formidable bomber striking force." Type 37 is the nearest-Russian equivalent to the U.S. Air Force's eight-jet Intercontinental bomber designed to carry Uie H-bomb, the B52. However, air experts have pointed out that the Soviets have come up with unusually powerful jet engines. Four of them in the Type 37 apparently do almost the same Job that eight engines do for the B52. The United States is believed to have held .for a long time the production lead In medium jet bombers with the six-Jet B47. This is the plane with which the Russian Type 39, with only two jets, would have to compete. Jane's said the Russians also have a new single-jet, .single-seat fighter plane, apparently an Im proved MI017; a large swept-wlng bomber powered by four turboprop engines; s twin-Jet night or all weather fighter and a small rocket propelled Interceptor.
