OREGON PAGE NINETT Woman's Skeleton Leads To Bizarre Investigation CASPER VUua ln A .. skeleton, chipped by police ham mers irom a concrete tomb to the home of a respected family of seven, has started a bizarre in vestigation. The grisly find solved the dis appearance 29 months ago of Mrs. Barbara Alexander, 27. But in turn it led to new and macabre puzzles. Mrs. Alexander's body, the hands clutching a rude cross at the chest, was found In the basement of the east Casper home of her husband James, 48, a former schoolteacher here. "The body was pointed out to us by the person who buried it." said nairona uoumy Atty. Jlay Whit taker. "That person was Mrs. Rose Alexander." Rose Alexander Is James" first and also bis present wife. Married some years ago, they had two chil dren and later were divorced, Whlttaker said. -Alexander then married Barbara Alexander, who had two children by a previous marriage and one by Alexander. All the children lived at the Alex anders' home here. Rose Alexander, in a statement to officers, said Barbara's death was accidental. No charges have been filed. Barbara Alexander vanished In July 1953, but, for reasons not ex plained, her disappearance was not reported by Alexander until "about J nine months later," the county at torney said. Asked by the missing woman's parents at Hardin, Mont., to con tinue an Investigation, police ques tioned the present Mrs. Alexander. On Monday, Police Chief C. J. Carter said, Mrs. Rose Alexander signed a statement relating these details: She went to the Alexander home in 1953. Barbara came to the door and stumbled against a pile of bricks. They credit this to intensive diplomatic efforts by the United States, Britain and the United Na tions.
