hunting knife, was charged with
assault with a dangerous weapon

Hunting Mishaps
KNIGHTSEN (UP) Two men
were killed in hunting accidents
during the opening of pheasant
season near here in Contra Costa
County over the weekend.
Alvln o. Maybeck, 67, a Stockton
rancher, accidentally . shot himself
yesterday with his own 'snotgun
when he slipped crossing an Irriga
tion ditch.
Aaron Schubert, 45, of Oakland,
wes killed by a blast from the gun
of his son, Don, 15, as they were
hunting together on Bethel Island
Saturday.
George H. Wheeler, .33, of Orlnda
was wounded in the tag yesterday,
while hunting in Yolo County with
a friend, Calvert Bowles, 74. of
Orlnda.

Horseradish Harvest On
TULELAKE Harvesting of the
100 acres of horseradish raised

Burton Hoyle manager of the
Tulelake Field Station said today
that digging will be continued as
soon as the snow melts. Snowfall
in the recent storm was much less
than the Klamath Falls area.
Forty thousand pounds left the
sorting sheds for Portland tost
week which brought 10 cents per
pound field run. Yields are from
three to four tons per acre but
vary widely according to cultural
methods used.

factory, Hoyle said.
The crop Is being dug with two
row potato diggers or potato bulk
ers. A crew of 20 men and women
are sorting in three, eight-hour
shifts at Jones' Cellar No. 4 at
Newell. .

can be harvested next spring with
out damaging the roots of the
plant. .
