Ben Youssef May Return To Throne In Morocco As Madagascar Exile Ends NICE. France WV Former Sultan Sidi Mohammed Ben Youssef, who has become a symbol of flaming nationalism for Moroccans, re turned to France from exile in Madagascar today amid strong signs he shortly will be returned to bis throne. The 41-year-old Moslem deposed two years ago by the French ar rived on a four-engined plane with his two wives, seven concubines, two sons, four daughters and 23 servants and was greeted by a stream of French and Arab no bles. Nelson Learned x TOLELAKE Harry Leslie Nel son, 66, resident of Cedarville. died Sunday, October 30 as he drove toward Medicine Lake to visit friends. Deputy sheriff-coroner, F. A Dobson, Tulelake, who investigat ed, stated that Nelson slumped into his wife'3 lap and was dead upon arrival at the lake. Death appar ently followed a heart attack. He had suffered from a heart condi. tion about a month ago. Nelson had been a resident of Siskiyou County for 25 years and of Modoc County for 10 years. He was a retired rallrond engineer. He is survived by his widow Mrs. Winnifred Nelson,' Cedarville, and other relatives. The body was taken to Upton's Mortuary in Weed and will be transferred to Kerr's Funeral Home In Alturas. Ben Youssef's overthrow two years ago was largely engineered with the backing of Thaml El Glaoui, powerful Berber chieftain who disapproved of the extreme Nationalists in the cities who were getting increasing sympathy from the Sultan. Last week, however, the Berber i leader abruptly reversed himself and declared the Sultati should be I restored. Nationalists were not pleased with the politically experienced Ben Arafa's elsvation to the throne and made two attempts on his life. Faced with increasing terrorism and rebel activity, the French gov ernment of Premier Edgar Faure undertook negotiations with the Nationalists and reached an agree ment that Included the dethrone ment of Ben Arafa, creation of a regency and a new government which would include Nationalists, and concessions by which the pro tectorate would enjoy more self government. The French agreed that Ben Youssef would be returned to France but not to his throne. Ben Youssef ascended the throne in 1927 on the death of his father.
