He collapsed and died as be walked up to the front door of his home alter the trip. . Two youths, Donald Ross, Rose ..burg, and Jimmy Hawk, the latter about 14. were wounded In separ ate accidents last weekend. Police said each boy wounded himself in the foot when his gun accidentally discharged. Both were treated at a Lakeview hospital. The third belated report also was a hunter shot in the foot. It was near John Day and the wounded hunter was Lester Asbah. Port land, reported to have been hit when his companion's gun' fell and discharged as it was graobed. He was tieated at John Day. Seven other accidental shootings were reported earlier. None of the victims was hurt seriously. No Car Relief Seen By SP ; SAN FRANCISCO W No appre. clable relief is in sight in (he cur rent national boxcar shortage which is particularly plaguing sucb seasonal industries as lumbering in Northern California and Oregon, the Southern Pacific Co. said Wednesday. The SP said it has moved more than 84 thousand, empty cars into the Oregon lumber areas from points as far distant as Texas in its efforts to equalize it car dis tributlon among all operating divi sions. It said it has moved more lum ber out of Oregon this year than - The railroad said the shortage ' which began last June, exists gen erally and that other railroads serving the Northwest are feeling the squeeze. The shortage in the west, It added, is due to the fail ure of cars to come back In vol ume from the Middle West and East. On Sept. 16, it was noted, the number of plain boxcars avail able on SP lines was less than 75 per cent of the company's car ownership, since then the ratio has declined. Mitchell and his wife were hunting deer in the Swan Lake area when Mitchell bagged the cat. Mrs. Mitchell returned with a 4-point buck. The bobcat weighed 24 pounds dressed.' Mild and pleasant weather prevailed in most of the eastern quarter of the country. Rain Which has pelted the Mis sissippi . Heaviest falls were reported in central Missouri and parts of Oklahoma, with 2 inches at Columbia, Mo, Floodwaters Inundated ISO blocks of Wichita Palls. State Farm Size Grows WASHINGTON OP Oregon has fewer but ltirgcr iarms now than in 1950. the Bureau ol Census say-. in a preliminary report on last tail's state farm- census. The report shows' that while the stale's total him land increased from 20.327.683 acres to 21.062,340 acres, the number . of farms de clined from 59.831 to 54.442, in the live years since 1950. The sire of the average farm increased during the period from 340 acres tn 381 acres. 1 Dairy farms, the most popular type it 19oO, fell off to No. 2 posi tion In I he 1954 report. Livestock farms other than dairy or poultry took over the No. 1 spot with a total of 6.0E7 farms. Dairying continued important. however, with farms repoitim,' 1954 sales of 811.12l.rj6 pounds of whole milk as compared with but 148.302.811 pounds in 19491 The 32.089 farms dealing In poul try and poultry products reported chicken -stiles of 8.513.349 and movement of 29,231.011 dozen eggs during the year.
