markable relief of pain and other

waste of valuable skills and talents
must be eliminated."
These are not mere offhand
comments. The government has
determined to do something about
the older worker situation. It has
obtained a special fund from Con
gress and mapped a detailed battle
plan against the proolein.

The Public Health Service fig
ures the average life span at the

it's now 69, and by 1980 it will be
80 plus. In 1900 there were about

$100-a-monlh . pensions, without
restrictions, for World War 1 vet
erans 60 years old or older, has
been approved by the Marine
Corp League.
A resolution, passed by the or
ganization at its 32nd annual con
vention yesterday, directed the
group's national leaders to seek
legislation for such pensions.
The resolution said that it Is
traditional that veterans' pensions
be established and liberalized on
the basis of disabilities and need
which increase with age.

siderable muscular strength once

the older worker himself has

taken better care of himself, and
has more skill and education than

SIX-POINT PROGRAM
Mitchell has launched a six-point
program to combat age barriers

qualities. A study "broad enough

way.
2. Are pension costs an obsta
cle? Many employers shy away
from hiring older worker in be
lief it will hike their pension plan
costs. The department is consult
ing experts on how this obstacle
can be handled.
