Boy Scouts Hold Fall Roundup DUNSMUIR " The fall roundup of the Shasta Silver Tip district of the Crater Lake Council of Bny Scouts was held on Mount Shasta over the Labor Day weekend. Thirty Scouts from Dunsmuir. Mount Shasta, Weed. McClnud and Ponriosa met at Panther Meadow at I'30 p.m. Saturday and hiked to an elevation of 10,000 feet where they established a base camp for the night. At A a.m. 6unriay. the group pro ceeded to the top of the mountain, the first scouts arriving about noon. A group', of six Explorer Scouts, under the leadership of H. B. Hamilton of McCloud camped Sunday night on the. top of the peak, the balance of the group re turning to Panther Meadov. . are invited to a picnic to be held at 3 p in at Wiaid Park, Sunday, September 11. Chang of State University of Iowa. They experimented with a com mon type of frog, often used in pregnancy tests. They treated male embryo (still unborn) Hogs with a female sex harmone. The males all became egg-producing females but were still genetically males. When the eggs from these sex reversed frogs are fertilized by sperm from their brothers, or from other male frogs, all the young tadpoles are of male constitution. But any desired percentage of them ean be induced to become "females" by adding a tiny amount of the female sex hormone to the water in which they live. One week of hormone treatment produces the change of apparent sex. for a lifetime. At this point, for procreation of the colqny of frogs, the true genetic females are no longer ne cessary. Theoretically It might become possible to do this same thing with animals or conceivably with hu mans, said Witschie .and Chang. A more likely possibility is pre determination of sex at will in stock animals, to be sure of pro ducing male or female offspring. Some of them might also be in duced to have some male char acteristics, to contribute the male share of fertilization, but they would not be changed into men. males. No true males would be necessary.
