The King Sisters and Kenny McCell's orchestra were leatured attractions in addition to the (air exhibits and the 4-H and FFA live stock auctions. Lake Telephone Hearing Planned Charles H. Hcltzel. Oregon pub lic utilities commissioner, has scheduled a hearins in the Lake County Courthouse in Lakcview on' Wednesday, September 7, to con sider possible changes in service arrangements by West Coast Tele phone Company in thai district. The commissioner is investigat ing all areas served by West Coast Telephone in respect to service arrangements. An animal raised by Mel anie Dudley of the Gazelle 4-H Club brought 34 cents a pound. The champion and reserve cham pion I'FA beef was a black Angus raised by Clyde Hammond of the Etna FFA chapter, purchased for 32'; cents a pound by Saleway Stores, Inc. Champion and reserve champion 4-H beef was raised by Carl Ham mond Jr., of the EUia 4-H Club, and brought 26 cents a pound from Cox Brothers of Merrill, purchaser. In the Saturday afternoon parade, the best marching outfit award went to Ross Neilon Post Drum and Bugle Corps of Vreka. DKATHS ZERMATT, Switzerland W Al len Crawford, 22, of Denver, Colo., nnd a 19-y e a r-old Englishman, Hoderick Phillips, fell 3.000 feet to their deaths while returninir lrom the summit of Ihe 13,500 foot Matterhorn Friday, police re ported Monday. The two men were relatively inexperienced climbers, the police said, but made the dan gerous ascent without guides. Her course at the Kaiser Foundation, which is attached to the Permanante Hospital in Oakland, will be completed in three years when she will be capped as an R.N. Fire Destroys Oregon Mill RAINIER, Ore. in Fire blamed on sparks from a welder's torch destroyed the Van Fleet Lumber Co. sawmill here Sunday. Damage was estimated unofficial ly at l2-niillion dollars. Members of a maintenance crew repairing a carriage m ttie mill said the sparks touched off a small blaze which spread quickly out ot i control. It brought firemen from Rainier and from nearby Longview and Keiso, Wash., who battled lor two hours to keep n from spreading to 3'i million board feet of lumber on ad.ioining docks. The llames were confined to the sawmill and a portion of the cocks. Firemen saved the planing mill. Resident manager H. W. Hum Iston s&id the plant was valued at two million dollars. He estimated value of the sawmill at I'j million dollars and lumber on the docks at $200,000. Humiston said mast of the loss was covered by insurance. Ten persons were treated for minor burns suffered fighting the blae. Youths Hurt In Stolen Car Two teen-agers, Joy riding In a stolen Cadillac, came to grief early Sunday morning when the automo bile went out of control and plunged down a 60-foot embankment on the outskirts of Klamalli Falls. The 17-year-old driver of the stolen vehicle suffered broken 'eg and his 13-year-old companion were severely cut and bruised. According to state police, the ac cident occurred a quarter of a mile north of the Intersection of Biehn Street and Highw ay 97 short ly after 4 a.m. Sunday. The boy with the broken leg ad mitted to officers that he stole the automobile from the Jim -Winde Motor Co. lot at 1330 Main Street. He was taken to Klamath Valley Hospital In s Kal;r ambulance. The other boy was released to his parents after being cited for violation of curfew regulations. State police said their investiga tion revealed the boys, who were traveling north, had Just passed another automobile at about 65 miles and hour when the machine went out of control and started to sway.
