Despite the heat, people were lined up and waiting tor admission v.hen the thow opened at the exhibit build in? at the fairgrounds. Most of them scem?d to Icel that it was well worth seeing. One of the mot attractive fea tures of the show were the planted gardens which ranged the walls. NoribMdc Garden Club took first prize with its attractive outdoor patio. Many favorable comments were m?de on the unusual flaggin? stones supplied by Mrs. W. P. My rs. Second prize went to the un usual Chinee garden arranged by the Lort River Club, and third rri;e went to the Juniper Branch for their covered patio, which fea tured the use of the new plastic roofinyr material. Competition in the arrangements was very keen with 187 entries in the various classes. Sweepstakes went to Mrs. J. R. Miller, 3314 Maryland Avenue. The universal comment seemed to be the amaz ing versatility and nearly profes sional touch used in the construc tion of the arrangements. In spite of the uncertain weather this year, the number and quality of the specimens shown were most unusual. Bill Depew, a commer cial florbt, commented that he had not known so many varieties could be successfully raised here. In the competitive horticultural section of the show there were 205 entries with 66 varieties of flow ers represented. A conservative es timate of the specimens shown in the ' Collector's Corner" was placed at 300. The Juniper Branch which took the blue ribbon in this section, had over 100 varieties of flowers represented in their dis play. Special exhibits added to the in terest of the show. The Kenneth McLeods created much enthusiasm with their unusual display of birds, especially among the men present.
