Miss Siskiyou To Be Named YREKA Judses will name Mifis Siskiyou, queen of the Siski you County Fair and the county's candidate in the Maid of California contest, at a dinner meeting Wednesday night at the Vreka Inn. The (air will be held Friday, Sat urday and Sundav at the fair grounds just south of Yreka. Four communities have named oueen candidates. They are Weed. Mount Shasta. Dunsmuir and Vreka. There will be one judge from each of the cilles, and the judges will not be permitted to ote for the girl from their own community. The winner will be crowned at the county fair, and on August 27 will leave for Sacramento lo par ticipate in the Maid of California Judging. Miss Sbkiyou will take a Jog of water obtained from the Marble Mountains Primitive Area with her to Uie stale fair to participate in the Marriage of California Waters Pageant, when the Maid of Cali fornia candidate lrom each coun ty will pour a sample of water from that county into a common urn. Winner of the Maid of California contest will receive a $1,000 U.S. savings bond, and the 10 runners up will receive a 1100 bond each. Entrants in the Miss Si.ski.vou contest are Joan Irvine, Duns muir; Terry Huntingdon. Mount Shasta; Sandra Hughes, Weed, and Judie Swenson, Yreka. JLJ s r-. USAF Office Number Changed Prospective Air Force enlistees are reminded by the local recruiting station that the telephone number has been ohanaed. It is now 9S2b. instead of 8401. The office is located in the post of fice building. Meanwhile, the Army recruiting station, which formerly shared of fice space with the Air Force, has moved to Room 5. 61 Main Street. Sgt. Upon grad uation of a class recently diplomas were presented by the Emperor and Empress of Ethiopia. Yreka Council Studies Budget YREKA The Yreka City Coun cil last week began work on a pre liminary budget for the city for next year, but decided to put off the tedious Job until a special meeting Wednesday. Adoption of a final budget must come before the end of the month, as stale law requires that cities set their tax rales prior to September 1. The city last year budgeted J220, 5C.) and spent $220,325. Councilman James Cummings .said that the current water short age, and expenses pertaining to a shortrun solution of the problem, such as wells currently being dug south of the city, should be con sidered in the budget.
