There would be no restriction on Friday and Saturday night dates, nor any after Thanksgiving Day. The latter would permit such late season games as Army-Navy Notre Dame-Southern California and other attractions to be viewed Coast to Coast. The proposal, exponents said, would be more elastic than a some what similar plan advanced for re gional control by the Big Ten re cently. Harvey Casslll, director of ath letics at the University of Wash ington and chairman of the NCAA Television committee outlined de tails of the proposal. Meanwhile, the conference dis closed that a coach has been rep rimanded for unethical recruiting practices. The name of the coach, the school or actually the sport or the type 01 violation were not divulged. But there was no room left for doubt that the sport was football and the violation pertained to recruiting methods. Prof. H. P. Everest, faculty rep resentative of the University of Washington and press spokesman for the conference, upon the ur gent request of news writers, said he would ask the faculty bosses to revise their policy of keeping details of such matters secret. Merrill Edges Sacred Heart Terry Sherrill sank a free throw with six seconds showing on the clock to give the Merrill Huskies a 46-45 victory over the Sacred Heart Trojans last night on the Academy floor. The Huskies led at every quar ter oreak oy scores o! 17-12, 32-24 and 39,31, in a very exciting see saw battle between tho two county league rivals in a non-league battle. Sacred Heart staged a last half surge, but couldn't match the early game scoring by Merrill which held the Trojan blast in the final two quarters. Herb Schlecht topped the Merrill scorers with a total of 28 points, while ' Dean Michaelis led Sacred Heart with his total of 19 counters. Major Loop Owners Veto Player Request NEW YORK I The major league owners rejected the most important requests of the player representatives at their Joint meet ing and at the same time ' gave the minor leagues the expected brushoff . The majors slammrd the door on all but a couple of minor re quests of the players, such as ap proving mailing of contracts Jan. 15 instead of Feb. 1 nd uniform payment of expenses In spring' framing. ' In explaining why the -owners turned thumbs down on the play ers' demand for a boost in mini mum salary from $6,000 to 17.200. Commissioner Ford Frick, who presided at the joint session, said "Such an increase would be a pretty expensive item, because In the case of players Hint down to the minors, the major league club would have to continue to pay the minimum salary." Also vetoed wis the lequest that present restrictions on winter ball participation be lifted. The majors rejected an amend ment by the minors restricting broadcasts and telecasts of big league games within a radius of 50 miles of each home city. The owners, however, made an effort to help the minors financially oy agreeing to pay minimum fees for players brought up from class B. C and D leagues. They also agreed to pay part of the manager's sal ary and the spring training ex. penses for clubs with which they have a working agreement.
