Stevenson today was reported ad vising party leaders he believes President Eisenhower can be de feated in any 1956 re-election bid If Democrats pound away at what he regards as the unpopularity of the Republican party.. Stevenson's views, as - lnter-J preted to those who talked to him during a Democratic rally which ended here Saturday, was that Ei senhower himself Is likely to re tain for the next two years a meas ure of the personal popularity which gave the general his sweep ing presidential victory over Stev enson in 1952. But Stevenson evidently ., be lieves that Republicans will con tinue to demonstrate in the next two years what Paul M. Butler, Democratic national chairman elect, yesterday called the OOP's "incapacity to govern.-' , Butle; put the finger directly on Eisenhower at a news conference, asserting: RESPONSIBILITY " "We Intend to call to the atten tion of the American Deople Pres ident Eisenhower's lack of capac ity to govern and to unite the peo ' pie. That language was perhaps a lit tle stronger than Stevenson him self was prepared to use. Municipal spokesmen of the two leading parties warmly agreed they must establish a strong new democratic coalition here under the shadow of the Russian army, regardless of .their partisan quar rels in West Germany over loieign policy. The mammoth turnout of 1.554. 766 voters lor yesterday's election 91.6 per cent of those eligible Potato Tests Being Made - Test planting reports for founda tion and certified seed potatoes grown in Klamath County are be ing received now. E. C. Johnson, Oregon State Col lege certification specialist, re ports that test planting results for many White Rose and Netted Oem seed lots will be completed before Christmas, Reports for many test samples are expected earlier in December. Samples which arrived at the greenhouse late avill not be ready until after. January 1. Samples of uncertified potatoes submitted for test planting will be planted as certified seed lots are removed from the beds. Test planting results are being obtained in less than 60 days after planting. The United Nations was born- in San Francisco at a con ference which .began April 25, 1945 Oregon Seed Meet Planned Potato growers attending the Oregon Seed League meeting Portland v December 8, 9 and 10 will have a chance to tell what they think the Oregon Potato Com mission should be doing, states Jess Minson, Powell Butte. Min son is chairman of the seed league's potato committee and Bob Beasley is vice-chairman. Minson ays, "The seed league is responsible for the creation of the potato commission. They orig inated the idea and fought it through the legislature. It was formed specially to get some greenhouses erected so that our seed could be tested during the Winter, thereby getting rid of bad seed lots before planting time. Aft er this was accomplished, it has been working on other things, es pecially market promotion. "But our committee has a lot of other things coming up too. For example, why is it harder to con trol the Insects that spread potato diseases than it used to be? What is the potato outlook for next year? Are seed certification rules working all right? Every potato seed grower in the state will find something in the program of in terest to him."
