Civil Service announces ex- Phone System Te Be Changed WEED Saturday, December 4 at 11:01 p.m. all telephone num bers to weed will change to the new telephone numbering plan.' Weed's new numbers will have the prefix Yellowstone 8. This new numbering will bring Weed into the nation-wide numbering plan being established one exchange at a time throughout Califor nia. The new numbers with the pre fix will facilitate direct dialing of long distance calls to Weed by long distance operators in many parts of the country, in that they wUl be able to dial Weed direct from their offices. , As a preview of the event, F. M. Dill, Pacific Telephone and Telegraph manager, Yreka, has arranged for several days of pub lic telephone demonstrations in Weed. The demonstrations began Wednesday December 1 and will continue through Saturday Decem ber 4. Hours are from 4 p.m. until S p.m. each day. Arrangements have been made to show the ex hibits and demonstrations to school , children in the mornings and early afternoon. The demonstrations and exhibits are being staged at 127 Main Street in Weed. , There are approximately 900 telephones in Weed. Conversion to the dialing system commenced in Weed February 6, 1941. An eight man crew with the Western Electric Company, have been in Weed for about three months making the necessary cen tral office conversions. New directories were mailed out in Weed this week. Girl Scouts Hold Meeting - WEED Happy Birthday and a surprise was arranged by the Girl Scouts of Troop 2, for their leader Mrs. Bernice Scrlbner at their regular meeting last week. Following their regular patrol and business meetings, the girls presented a program of singing and musical numbers. As a complete surprise to their leader, Mrs. Scrlbner was pre sented with a green carnation cor sage and a scout friendship pin. Carol Giorgis played several ac cordion selections. Cake and punch were served by the girls. The cakes were made by four of the members, Michele Plllon, Sharon Pillon, Carol Gior gis and Judy- Perry. Palmer, who moved to Klamath County from Lander, Wyoming, when Wendell Palmer was named su perintendent of the Klamath In dian Agency a few months ago, have received word of honors re ceived by their daughter, Gayle. Gayle is a sophomore at Brig ham Young University at Provo, Utah, where she is a music stu dent of Professor Clawson Can non. Her music education began when she was five and she has studied piano while the family lived at Lander and prior to that, at Bismarck, North Dakota. She was recently one of nine students presented at a recital given by the university's music department under the direction ol Dr. John R. Halliday, music de partment chairman. She played Impromto in E riat, opus u, no. 2 by Schubert.
