I.fl A Drummond schoolboy walked Into his ranch home about a mile east of this Western Montana commun ity after school Tuesday and found both his parents shot to death. Dead were Arthur E. Periman, about 48, and his wile, Lorna, about 38. Coroner R. R. Wilson and Sheriff Fritz Lueck said the tragedy was "apparent murder-suicide" but re served final judgment pending further lnvestisatlon. Taylor, 85, veter an California newsman who died Monday night. Taylor was born in India where his father was a British Army officer. Coming to the United States in 1879, he worked on mod of the major San Francisco pap ers. After his retirement in 1929 he wrote magazine articles. Survivors Include a sister. W A gun battle early Wednesday le one city policeman and a gunman dead and another officer "hang ing onto life by a thread. ' Police Chief Paul Shaver said Patrolman Frank A. Sjolander, 21, was killed and Patrolman Eugene P. Casey, 30. critically wounded by four slugs while investigat ing a disturbance in front of residential area apartment. Shaver tentatively Identified me dead gunman as Jim Sparr, also known as Jim Blake, about i), who Shaver said apparently was a parole violator from California. Police sent out an alarm for Sparr's companion, whose identity wasn't known, but who Shaver said apparently engaged in the battle. Shaver said the companion also apparently was a California parole violator. Two Albuquerque men were held on an open charge. Shaver taid they apparently witnessed the shooting. The chief pieced together Uiis account of what happened: Tne two Californians and the two local men drove to the apartment eirly Wednesday. The Californians left the car and were creating a disturbance In front. The landlady, a Mrs. Davis, cure out and told them to quiet down and leave. Sjolander. then came up in his patrol car and attempted to quell j lhe noise. He radioed a call for assistance and Casey answered. Both officers apparently were starting te enter the apartment! when they were shot.
