OREGON Parents Hold Regular Meet MERRILL Merrill Parents Patrons met In the grade school caieteria for their first regular ; business meeting of this year. The president, Mrs. George Rankin appointed Mrs. Clyde Fox to con tact the sergeant of the Oregon State Police and an attorney-at-law to be on hand at the next meeting to discuss the forming of a school patrol. A finance commit tee with Mrs. Maurice Shelton as chairman, was appointed to plan tome fund raising projects. Mrs. USAF Recruits To Get Leaves T-Sgt. Donald A damn. In eharee of local Air Force recruiting with offices at the post office building. Klamath Falls, announced today that young men of this area who enlist in the Air Force will now be given a 10 day "vacation" at) the end of their basis training. This delay en route, as it Is known in military terms, not to ex ceed 10 days plus travel time, wul be granted to all Air Force basic military training graduates, prior service airmen, ' and Air Force ROTC enlistees, upon completion of basio training at Parks Air Force isase, uamornia. . The 10-day leave policy will be come effective with classes gradua ting in December 1954. Those air nen graduating in classes prior to the effective date of thto new policy will be granted ordinary leave at the end of their training.- Travel by private automoile will be authorized for airmen having automobiles in .their possession at the time of departure from the ba ' sic training center, and also- for those who can show evidence that such travel should be authorized in accordance with travel policies. 1 All other graduates will be re quired to purchase tickets to their point of leave, and from there to their new duty assignment. They will be allowed to select their modo of travel. Accrued pay and advance travel pay will be paid prior to departure from the basic training base. i Lon Street will assist her. November 7 to 13 is American Education Week, and a visitation day is planned for all parents and friends November 9, beginning at 1 p.m. The general theme of Education Week is, ' good schools are your responsibility. Immediately after visitation to the classrooms, regular meeting of PPA will start at 3 p.m. In the cafeteria. Flo Ann Perkins, the first grade teach will tell about her recent visit to Europe. Anyone Interested is in vited to attend, Bly Carnival Queen Crowned BLY Mary Lou Tomal, daugh ter of Mrs. and Mrs. George To mal of Beatty, was crowned Queen of the annual Bly school carnival held Saturday night. October 30. in the gym. She received her crown In an 8 o'clock ceremony after which she officially opened the various booths and conces sions to the public. Her court con ' s-isted of Sharon Melsness, Ella Louise Walker and Alma Lee Chronistcr. The public buys their votes for queen at a penny a piece. A total of $49.70 was raised. The contest is sponsored annually by the Bly Parents and Patrons to raise anoney with which to buy something for the school. Lasi year they purchased a folding bed and bedding to have in readi ness for anyone sick or hurt dur ing school hours. Another year they purchased a new scales for the school to replace one that had teen In use for almost 30 years.
