The 1952 Democratic presidential candidate also says the .Republi cans are waging a nationwide campaign based on "communism. Labor Secretary Mitchell Pledges U. S. Job Action WASHINGTON Oft Secretary of, Labor Mitchell has pledged "any government action necessary" to boost employment and living stan dards, carrying out the "prosper ity without war" theme to which the Republicans have pitched Cieir campaign to win control of the next Congress. Following President Eisenhow er's lead, Mitchell told a nation wide television and radio audience last night that 1954 has been "the most prosperous peacetimo year in our history." He lashed out at "politicians try ing to get your vote by distorting facts and trying to scare you." He said that while there was some jirosperity during the 20 years of democratic administrations, "it was built on the suffering and trag edy of two wars." The Eisenhower administration has brought about peace and in crcaslngly prosperous times and is working for further economic im provement, he said. "We are looking forward to more jobs, more production, and a high er standard of living for all Amer icans," he said. ' ' "We Republicans are committed and determined to keep the people of the United States prosperous and to take any government action necessary to expand employment and have an ever-higher standard of living for all the people of the United States." An Eisenhower economic speech Monday night and Mitchell's follow up appeared designed as a one two counterpunch against frequent Democratic campaign claims that the Republican administration has neglected the working men and kept aloof from the jobless prob lem. Eisenhower said unemployment declined by 400,000 from Septem ber to October. The exact figures, as released by the Commerce De partment yesterday, showed a 358, 000 drop, from 3,099,000 to 2,741, 000. A September-October decline in the jobless total is normal, but the Commerce Department said this month's drop "appeared to be larger than usual." The deport ment said the seasonally Indicated decline normally would be 230,000. The total of employed in October Vas put at 62,141,000 virtually un changed from September. Mitchell said the "latest informa tion" indicates unemployment "is lower today." I ;'7TT " ' Actor1 Sued By Crash Victim LOS ANGELES W Actor George Raft was sued for $10,000 damages yesterday as a result of a three automobile freeway collision. Miss Virginia Bouldware alleged the actor's car hit the rear of one in which she was riding last Jan. 9. She accused Raft of negligence and said the $10,000 represents medical care and lost earnings.
