OREGON PAGB m Vice President Nixon To Campaign For Guy Cordon By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Vice President Richard Nixon will be in Oregon Tuesday to campaign tor the re-election of Ouy Cordon to the U.S. Senate. The vice president's ilrst talk in Ihe state is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at the coliseum on the Oregon State College campus at Corvallls. That evening he will peak informally before the Men's Club at the Portland Temple Beth Israel. His major addres-s, to be carried by radio and television, will be at the Portland.. Masonic Temple, at 8:30 p.m. Cordon, meantime, received the endorsement of seven men, active In public power circles. The seven, who have formed an organization known as the Oregon Public Power Committee, said in a statement that the issue of the cajrmaien between Cordon and his Demo cratic opponent, Richard L. Neuberger, is "adequate power versus inadequate power. The choice Is between full development of our power resources by the federal government, public agen cies and private companies as proposed by Guy Cordon or limited development of our power plus unlimited control by the federal government, as favored by Neuberger." The group also said Neuberger -has no conception of the problems which face the state of Oregon, and further, has no understanding of the many-sided question of power development with its allied problems of economy and indus trial expansion in the state. He has been guilty of serious errors of fact in nis discussions of ., power development." The committee Is headed by Earl McNutt. a member of the Eugene Water and Electric Board It members include Lawrence Hull, a director of Central Lincoln People's Utility District: W. J Seufert, former president of the Northern Wasco PUD; Louis Courtemanche, a commissioner of the City of McMinville Water and Light Dept.; J. D. Puzey, a director of the Clatskanle PUD: Charles Belknap, former president of the Oregon Assn. of REA Co-ops; and rord Northrup, Eugene, a former president of the Northwest Public Power Assn. Gus Norwood of Vancouver, Wash., executive secretary of the Northwest Public Power Assn., said bis organization is non-partisan and "the use of its name for political purposes to endorse Cordon or any other candidate Is not authorized." Neuberger, speaking at Cottage Grove Sunday, said he was an ardent supporter of the United Nations, and said he disagreed with a statement which he said' Cordon made, objecting to the size of U. s.'contributions to the world j organization. 'Our contributions is Just a few: pennies, compared with the cost of weapons of death and destruc tion. I just can't - understand Cordon's objections to our contri bution to the United Nations." Neuberger said. ' Earlier at Oakrldee. Neuberger said Cordon had voted against a bill which would have increased! personal income tax exemptions and for the Bricker amendment, which would have limited the j president's treaty-making powers. Joseph K. Carson, the Demo-j cratic candidate for governor, said, in a television broadcast a 1 1 Portland that his Republican opponent, Gov. Paul Patterson, was playing "footsie" with utility tycoons." He said that John C. Higgins; Ralph Coke, former Oregon Repub lican national committeeman for Oregon; and Gov. Thomas Dewey of New Vork are members of the Republican "power crowd" who were responsible for Douglas McKay's appointment as secretary of the Interior. never a cold moment . . .
