Neuberger In his race lor reelection as Unit, eo. S'ntes senator according lo public opinion polls made tor his committee William H. Steiwer, chairman of the Cordon for Sena tor committee reports. The same polls show Governor rsui L. Patterson far ahead of Joseph K. Carson Jr. and Indicate the election of all four Republican candidates for the House of Rep resentatives. Since April the polls reveal that Cordon has consistently gained in Multnomah County, says Steiwer. In the same period he has lout some ground outstate. Latest Mult- Notables Honor Mrs. Roosevelt NEW YORK tfl Mrs. Frank lin D. Roosevelt was showered with greetings and high praise from famous persons throughout the world at a huge 10th birthday party given for her Monday night. More than 1.000 persons gath ered in the grand ballroom of the Hotel Roosevelt to pay tribute to the ever-active widow of presi dent Roosevelt. Guest after guest rose to speak in honor of her. Birthday messages poured In from such world figures as Pres ident Eisenhower, former Presi dent Truman, Queen Elizabeth II of England, Indian Prime Minister Nehru and Secretary of State John Foster Dulles. When she finally had a chance to speak for herself,' Mrs. Roose velt briefly reviewed tbe past and then expressed this hope for the United States in the future: "I would like to see us take hold of ourselves, look at ourselves and cease being afraid." The party was organized by the American Assn. for the United -Nations, for which Mrs. Roosevelt. If chairman of the board of governors. nomah County compilations give Cordon 36 per cent, Neuberger 41 per cent, undecided 23 per cent. Combined totals In the state out side Multnomah county give Cor don 40 per cent, Neuberger 34 per cent, undecided 26 per cent. In only two outsUte counties does the poll show Cordon behind. Clackamas County results give Cordon 36 per cent, Neuberger 30 per cent, undecided it per cem. Union county totals give cordon 3t per cent, Neuberger 50 per cent, undecided 16 per cent. Trends maintained from early April to the present favor Cordon and U they continue win assure his election, Steiwer said. The totals: United States Senator: Guy Cor don, 38' per cent; Richard L. The committee feels that dunking donuts at home is much better for youngsters than street fighting. Psychrlatrists maintain that youngsters have an abundance of energy which should be channeled into constructive activity, and with this as Its premise, the Na tional Party Committee encou afces parents to give home par ties which will provide an outlet jfor this excess energy while keep ing the youngsters off the streets. Plans are made to concentrate the effort around Halloween, when mil lions of dollars worth of damage Is done annually by children and teen-agers.
