Both entered canned pears. The contest, sponsored by the White Satin Sugar Company, 'is open again this year and entries will be judged October 25 at Joan's Kitchen at the fairgrounds. Mrs. Barleen is a mem bar of the Shasta View Grange. Mrs. Murray is a member of the Merrill Grange. Inter-Agency Council Meet Held Here Bob Ptickett, executive secre. tary of the United Fund Campaign opening October 30, gave a con' else and Instructive talk on "How the Individual and the Agency Can Benefit from the United Fund," at the first fall meeting of the Inter- Agency Council held October 6 at the YMCA. . The United Fund is the result of the long felt need of the com munity for coordinating support of the numerous ' organizations who depend upon Individual help for continued success, Puckctt stated. Continued work for a more equitable distribution of funds to eliminate any hardship on any or ganization la planned. The United Fund represents 36 local and na tional agencies and contributions to a central authority for handling funds is meeting with Increased approval. Margaret Sheridan reported on work being done on a clearing de pot for used clothing and bedding. It was announced that Richard Applegatc. Medford, INS corres pondent held for several- months by the Chinese communists, will appear at Mills School Auditorium Monday, October 18 to speak on his experiences while a prisoner. Applegate is sponsored by the Business and Professional Women. Success of last year's Christmas Bureau from which Christmas cheer was distributed to many families, was the yardstick for plans to repeat the program again this holiday season. Mayor Paul Landry, recommended re-actlvat-ing. the program. Dr. Seth Kerron Klamath County Health Officer reporting on the typhoid immunizations in the south suburban area, stated that 8000 shots had been given in the series of three needed for complete pro tection. The final shots are sched uled for Tuesday afternoon. 4 to 6 p.m. at the Church of the Breth- ern for those who still have one of the series to take. He stated that the Immunization program, a preventative measure undertaken by Uie Klamath Coun ty Health Department with the full cooperation of the Klamath County Medlcnl Association had not solved the problem that con fronts residents of that area. With the population growth, the need is far greater than it was live years ago when formation of a sanitary district was put to a vote of the property owners and was rejected, "Something must be done aoon." Dr. Kerron said, "regard less of whether It Is formaUon of a sanitary district or annexation to the city of Klamath Falls." Tho Klamath County Health Council will have a meeting later this month (to further educate the residents of that area to the ser iousness of the situation. Mrs. Clifford Groves is the new president; Mrs. A. E. Ryckman fcerves as vice president: Mrs. Gladys Jensen was reelected sec retary and Mis. Ross Ragland will fill the office of treasurer. Mrs. Lillian Turnbaugh wa- chairman of the nominating committee. In stallation will be in November. Presbyterial will be held at Feace Memorial Church, Klam&lh Falls, starting at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until 4 p.m. October 15. The annual rummage sale Is also planned for that weekend, October 15-16. 10 a.m. to evening in the former location of the Fausett Electric. Mrs. D. P. Reid will be rummage chairman. Rummage should be taken to the church an nex before the opening date. The Guild provided clothing for several of the children orphaned in the recent highway accident.
