Throughout the re hearsal, dialogue director Leon Charles stood In Ferrer's place and read his lines. While giving direc tions. Ferrer referred to Charles as "me." Ten Blue Bell Blue Birds, third grade Junior Camp Fire girls from Peterson School, found the Southern Pacific Railroad yards a place of enchantment last Friday as they were conducted through the big engines and tile round house. W. S. McBride of the South-! era Pacific Company acted as host and guide to the group. He showed them the big sandhopper and how the sand was put into the engines to provide traction for the hard wheels on the slick tracks. They saw engines being overhauled above the deep pits in the round house floor, the wrecker unit which is always kept "fired up" ready to go at a moment's notice, and the massive rotary snow plows. The girls were shown through a - diesel engine and heard the roar of the powerful machinery. The ex citing climax to the tour was a ride for the entire group on the 1 turn table to see how the engines . were, turned around. A portion of the Blue Bird wish is "to go to Interesting places.'' The Blue Bell Blue Birds are cur lently making a study of the dif ferent methods of transportation ana are trying to visit as many . places as possible concerned with the subject. . After they watched the huge or .. ange : streamliner come silting to a stop and learned what is done : to a passenger train before it leaves the station, they agreed that the trip to the Southern Pa cific . installation was the most "interesting place" they had vis ited. Mrs. Ralph Fuller and Mrs. Morris Hillman are starting their second year as volunteer leaders of this very active group of Blue Birds.
