Neuberger has denied he was fxpelled from the University ol Oregon Law School for cheating and Sen. Wayne Morse has backed aim up. J The charge against Neuberger, the Democratic nominee for U. S. senator, was made last week by Circuit Judge Carl E. Wimberly, I Roseburg, a former law partner ; of Sen. Guy Cordon, Neuberger's Republican opponent. Neuberger gave this version of the 20-year-old episode. 'He said he used citations pre pared by another student for a legal bibliography. He said he did not know that the assignment was to be handled individually instead ; of by groups as he had been away irom the school a few days. I The accusation of violation of the 1 honor system was referred to a five-man board of law school . faculty members. The group voted 4-1 to expel Neuberger from the : law school, with Morse who was 1 dean of the law school, voting j against expulsion. j The matter then was referred to the University's discipline committee, which exonerated ; Neuberger. Neuberger said he left the law school to enter the journalism department because of scholastic difficulties. Neuberger produced a letter ; which he said Morse had written ' m 1950, giving substantially the i same version. Morse, who is supporting Neuberger in the cur rent campaign, wrote the letter ; before he bolted the Republican 1 Party to become an independent. The letter said in part: "It is not true that Mr. Neu-; berger was kicked out of the . University of Oregon law school. , He studied law for a term and decided that he did not care to continue with the study of law because of his preference and greater liking for journalism." Meantime at Roseburg, wimberly said: "Insofar as Neuberger is concerned, the significant fact is that he was charged with violating the honor system and that he was shortly thereafter eliminated from the law school. He may have been whitewashed by the trial commit tee but his connection with the law school was severed nevertheless." Cordon said he regretted that Wimberly had made the charge. Bus Neuberger said, "I do not place any credence in Sen. Cor don's unctuous denial. Two professional lobbyists have been traveling the state in the interests of the Cordon campaign circulat ing the tale far and wide." On Sunday, Charles Porter or Roseburg, the Democralic nominee to the U. S.
