"One simple way to determine your own skin tone," suggests Madame He lena Rubinstein, "is to observe Hollywood stars in techni color productions. Since there are only six basic skin types, it should be easy to check and see which of these has a skin tone most nearly like yours." Lena Turner, for instance, has a medium complexion, as do most American women, and finds Crackerjack the flattering shade; Elizabeth Taylor, pictured here whose skin tone is ivory, uses rachel foundation; Janet Leigh has a pink skin which she carefully highlights with peachbloom minute make-up; Cyd Charisse uses rose beige face powder and foundation to foster rosy undertones for her olive skin. Grow Orchids In Home Pots Orchids as house plants that's news. The Home Orchid Club, Box 021 Pacific Palisades. California, aays it can be done and has been successfully accomplished In Hous ton, Baltimore, Orlando. Little Rock. Indianapolis. Oklahoma City and other spots decidedly not In ue tropic zone. The club offers free bulletins to our readnrs: "How to Grow Or chids at Home where other House Plants Grow," to interested Den sons who write the club at the above address. If orchids will grow In Klamath rails like other house plants, we'll agree it Is news. We pass along me miormation sent by the Home urcnia ciuo: "Now that outdoor gardening time has approached the point of minimum immediate return, at tention moves to things that grow and bloom Inside. "Without question the dream bloom of all house plants growers would be the most exotic of all blooms, the Cattleya Orchid. "Now, at last, a way has been found to make the Cattleya Orchid bloom in the windows of homes in all climates wherever other house plants are successful. No longer is the culture of the Cat tleya Orchid mysterious magic that is kept secret from all others. No longer is a greenhouse re quired. No longer does the orchid grower need to be a super pot putterer with strange green thumb Instincts not shared by others. "The new orchid culture for homes Is not a sudden revolution. Instead it is the evolution of the plant and the technique for care that has been going on for more than 50 years. Commercial green house orchidists have been exper imenting to make harvests of or chid blooms larger with less work. Care has been simplified com pared to the old English Tech niques. Plants have been hybrid ized that love these simplified con ditions. The combinations of the two results in hardy, high pro ducing Cattleya Orchid plants that have been trained to enjoy and thrive under conditions found in almost any home. "For example, it !s no longer necessary to surround the orchid with a super-saturated humidity and oppresive heat. In fRct, Cat tleyas now thrive best on the same atmospheric conditions that hu mans and house plants enjoy. They like a high humidity in the morn, ing, when they are given a morn ing mist shower. They thrive on a temperature range of from 85 to 55 with cool nights and warm, sun- nV daVS. Thfv nri nA 4 they take their food from the air ab mgni. "The huge, dramatic blooms re ward any grower. Two to four blooms to a bloom stalk, with some plants furnishing as many as 20 to 30 blooms, Blooms last four weeks or so on the plant. Plant-ripe blooms last a week or more as a corsage." The bulletin, which the club of fers to send at no cost, is said to answer many of the questions that would come to any novice's mind about orchid culture, types of or chids to choose as a starter and about the orchid hobby. The Herald and News would ap preciate a call from any readers who are successful in growing or chids successfully as house plants. EAT BREAKFAST Start off the day with a good breakfast.
