TiW Oat Cattlemen Hold Meeting About 250 cattlemen and their wives attended the barbecue and meeting held at the Malin Park, Thursday, The meet was co-spon sored by the Modoc and Klamath County Cattlemen's Associations. Principal topic of discussion was the brand laws of the two states which creates a financial burden on cattlemen who move sock back: and forth across the state line In order to take advantage of different pasture seasons. Cattle moved from Oregon to California cost 30 cents per head and when cattle are returned from California to Oregon another fee of 11 cents is charged. Brand InHjiectors from both states told cattlemen there is noth ing they can do under the present laws but enforce them. They sug gested that new brand laws should be legislated permitting cattle along the stale line, to move to summer pastures and return to winter feed lots for a lesser fee. Roy Nelson, Oregon state brand Inspector Informed the group that there is a provision in the law permitting a refund on cattle orig inating in Oregon, transferred to California for pasturing and then returned again to Oregon. Beef promotion material Is now on hand, this consists of recipes and numerous poster.1;. Featured in the recipes are various ways for cooking beef slew which, per mits the use of the more plentiful cuts of meat. It was announced at the meeting that September 15 to October 15 will be declared beef and vegetable month .In Oregon. President of the California Cat tlemen's Association, Jake Schnei der, was the main speaker. J. E. Cecil, president of the .Oregon as sociation was unable to attend having been called to Denver to attend a national beef promotion meeting. Klamath GOC Plan Meeting The GOC will hold Its ' regular monthly meeting Wednesday, Sep tember 15. at 1:30 p.m. in the Pilots Lounge at the airport.
