Federal Funds Aid Fisheries WASHINGTON Senator .Guy Cordon reports that $94,963 has beeu apportioned by the lederal government to Oregon lor sport fishery restoration projects during the current fiscal year. . The federal funds are made available to the state under the terms of the Dingell - Johnson act of 19b0. This program, now in its fourth year, is enabling the states to create new public fishing lakes, restore many unproductive wa ters, and put research findings to better use. The revenue for the federal share of the program comes from the 10 per cent excise tax oa fish ing rods, creels, reels, pftd artifi cial lures, baits and flies, paid by manufacturers. Under law, the federal govern ment will pay 75 per cent of the cost of approved restoration pro jects. Thus, if Oregon uses the full federal, allocation, its contribu tion to the projects will bring to more than $126,000 the total amount available for the work in the state. To provide a fair distribution of federal funds, each state's share Is based on the relation of its num ber of paid fishing license holders to the total in all the states, and the ratio of each state's area i. eluding coastal waters, to the irei of the entire country.
