Reds Sentence Profiteers HONG KONG VF The Chinese Communists have imposed prison sentences and fines on persons ac cused in Tientsin of supplying sev eral hundred thousand rotten rub- ' ber shoes to Red soldiers in Korea. The case, described as the "law breaking case of 18 private rubber goods factories of Tientsin." broke into the Red press last year. Re ports said the shoes came apart on the soldiers' feet in the field. A preliminary investigation showed, said Peiplng. that the rub- ; ber had been adulterated, poor chemicals used causing the soles to part from the uppers, fats were substitute!, for rubber, for mulas were tampered with, con tacts were fulfilled late or were n't fulfilled at all, and outdated materials used. j Managers and a few government i officials were brought to public trial. They were also accused of robbing the state of about $100,000 through diversion of good rubber and good canvas to their own use.
