Set out a large dish of varied, colorful pieces of sweet juicy fruit halved peaches, halved apri cots, large prunes, pineapple, cantaloupe chunks and sliced bananas a skewer for each guest and let each one string his own kebab. Fruit bowl should be marinated in advance with I cup grapefruit juice, 'j cup honey, Vi teaspoon chopped mint. Baste fruit kebab while broiling, if desired. Broil 5 to 8 minutes, then slide fruit off onto a piaffe and smack your lips. PEACH SHORTCAKE makes a quick summer dessert. Using a yellow cake mix, bake a two-layer cake and cool. At serving time, arrange sliced, sweetened peaches over the bottom layer. Spread with sweetened whipped cream. Put on a second layer, top cake with sliced peaches and whipped cream as in photo graph. Haying operations are in full swing at Port Rock. The Stanley Sales auction which was held at the Fort Rock Orange Hall Wednesday, July 21, was well attended. Mrs. Gertrude Morehouse better known as Aunt Gcrty, is visiting the Morehouse family from Wash ington. Ray Lantz, Mollala, and son George visited here the weekend of July 17-18. Lantz homcsteaded here at Cook Well about 25 years go. Mr. and Mrs. Ike Fnintcr and daughter are living at Fort Rock In their trailer house, Ike is work ing at tho D. L. McGee snw mlll. Carol and Donna Hergert re turned from HilLsboro Friday July 23, where they have spent most of the summer visiting with their grandmother Mrs. w. D. Fowles. VA cups corn meal 2 cups boiling water l'a teaspoons salt 2 tablespoons butter l'A cups sweet milk 3 eggs separated (If sell-rising corn meal Is used, omit salt) Sprinkle corn meal into boiling water gradually, stirring constant ly until smooth and free from lumps. Add salt, butter and milk. Add well-beaten egg yolks and mix well. Beat egg white until stiff but not dry, and fold Into corn meal mixture. Pour into a but tered l-quart baking dish and bake in a moderate oven, 350 ae (trees, 45 minutes. Serve at once from baking dish, topping with butter. If desired. Yield: 60 to 8 servings. Eugene. was a weekend visitor at the Har old Hendrlckson home. She is a niece of the Hcndrlcksons. Mr. Bnd Mrs. G. C. Chapman have returned from a two weeks motor trip, which took them through Idaho. Washington, and the northern part of the state. Lar ry Bell took care of the recreation park while Chapmen was away. Guests of tile past two weeks at the Lacey ranch have been Mrs. Margaret Lacey and Mr. nnd Mrs. Joe Bagden. Snn Frnncisco, cous ins of James Lacey, his two broth ers Mr. and Mrs. William Lacey, Portland; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Lacey. New York; and a sister Mr. and Mrs. Prank Collins, Myrtle Point. Mrs. William Lacey is a sister ol Mrs. James Lacey and formerly resided nere. The guests also vis ited at the homes of Mrs. John Bryngclson, nnd Mrs. Clyde Fox. nieces. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Clark Abbott, Mr. and Mrs. Vince Kileen, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kendall. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hatzi, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hyde, Mr. and Mrs. Prank Obenchain Jr. and Mrs. Dave Campbell. High went to Bill Hatzl and Lynn Kendall. Mrs. Monte Cline and Mrs. Wes ley Harter spent the weekend vis iting at Weaverville, California, with Mr. and'Mrs. Bob Stanley and boys. Marion Cline returned home with them after spending a month with the Stanleys. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Miller and Charlene Collier have returned af ter a weeks vacation spent visiting in Los Angeles and other points in California. Eddie Dwinell is home after hav ing spent three weeks in Hillside Hospital with a broken back. He will be in a cast for some time. Eddie stepped on a broken board and fell from the top of a lumber pile at the Spangler Lumber Co. Mr. and Mrs. Wlllard Aldrich and family,- Mr. and Mrs. Archie Mitchell and family, Jo and Jim my Patzke, Judy McGinnis and Jerry Patzke have returned from Canby Camp, at Canny, uregon Ouesta at the Monte Cline home are Nancy Tibbits and Helen Stump, both girls are 1 taking nurses training at Providence Hos pital in Portland. A 2-C Leonard Schulze Is visit ing in Bly with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schulze and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Shulze. he returned a week ago after having spent 22 months in Alaska, Formosa and the Philip, pines. Leonard made his home in Bly before entering the service and is on his way to Minnesota now for a months furlough. Bernard LaCasse from Dinubli, California, is spending the sum mer at the Harry Obenchain ranch.
