But he added, "If it's all ap proved it's a good deal. . . .There's probably room over there for some more cuts, if they've been over staffed." He said Hawaii is entitled to statehood now and that if such a bill could have gotten through Congress, an Alaska state hood bill would be easier to put across. H A Pennsylvania sailor missing since i Friday on a bear hunting trip In the Cascade Mountains near here was rescued Tuesday after a heli copter spotted him frantically wav ing from a log. The missing enlisted man, Jay Vernon, 25, Irwin, Pa., suffered a leg Injury after he became lost last Friday while he and two other sailors from W h i d b e y Island. (Wnsh.) Naval Air Stallon were hiking up 5.600-foot Prairie Moun tain, 12 miles cast of here. The pilot of the Coast Guard helicopter, Lt. R. E. Bracken, said Vernon was lying in a small clear ing. Unable to land there. Bracken hovered over the spot and lowered i aviation machinist mate R. H. j Wheele? from the 'copter to the , spot, then directed a ground party to trie rescue. . j Bracken put down nearby and ' later flew the injured man back to Wbidbey. j Vernon had become separated from his two companions when he ; stopped to rest while they went ahead to lock for a camp site.
