OREGON PAGE SEVEN State Police School Held Oregon state police are attending classes Ihis week and next at the sixth annual state police school on the Oregon State College Campus. H. G. Maison, superintendent of state police gave the opening talk Monday. Lt. Lyle Herrell. Baker, is in charge of the school this week. Lt. Paul Morgan, Medford, will direct classes next week. Advanced officers get one week of training and rookies get a two weeks 'basic course. Courses covered in classwork will include motor vehicle law, court procedure, fish and game laws, first aid, weapon firing, state geography, patrol techniaues and criminal law and laws of evi dence arrest, search and seizure. Attengmg this week from the local state police and Lakeview office are officers Larry Bergman, Nick Barry, William Christiansen, Milton Deter, Lakeview, and a new recruit William Avellne, re cently transferred here from Coos Bay. Next week those attending will be officers Leslie Harroun, George Marshall, Byron Wilmington and John Faxton. Gold Town Booms Again DAWSON CITY, Y.T., Canada Ml Dawson City, which boomed in the gold rush days of '98 and has been slowly dying since, found it self back on the mainline Thurs day. Scores of impatient motorists were using the road leading from Whitehorse to bypass the washed out section which recent rains and flash floods had made Impassable on the Alaska Highway. Three bridges and 14 bridge ap proaches were . washed out on a 100-mile section of the Alaska Highway around Kluane Lake, be tween the 1050 and 1150 mile points, on July 10. The road is not ex pected to open until Thursday night at the earliest, and then only to one-way traffic at a slow rate. Meanwhile truck and auto traf lie piled up on both sides of the washed out area. Wednesday, cars began trickling into Tok Junction, Alaska customs station, and re ported they had traveled north around the washouts via good old Dawson City. 7 Basin Demos Hold Meeting ..Basin Democrats formulated plans Wednesday evening for an intensive vote-getting campaign at a dinne." meeting of the Klamath County Democratic - Club in Har old's restaurant. Henry G. Hansen, president of the club, announced that the club will stage an outdoor meeting Aug ust 12 at the Paul Buck home in Wocus. I The club members heard a brief ; talk by Al Ullman, Democratic,! candidate for congress. j "All our members are extremely ; enthusiastic over the prospect of a Democratic victory in Novem ber," Hansen said. DARREL GENTRY, 25, native of Klamath Falls, who . has served with the J. S. Army Band at the .Presidio, San Francisco for two years has been, discharged and is home. He is accompanied by his wife and three young chil dren. Gentry is a grandson of P. D. Reeder. The family is spending some time at the Reeder home, 312 Michigan Avenue.
