staff. They are in training at Sa
lem lor future assignment as field
men for the department's division
of foods and dairies, weights and
measures.
Irving has been farming on a
Tulelake homestead which he drew
in 1949; he has leased the home
stead to return to Oregon. While
on the farm he was an instructor
and later director of the veteran's
agricultural classes at Yreka.
Both men are veterans, Irving of
the Army and Bailey of the Navy.
Both arc Oregon College gradu
ates. Bailey, who came to Oregon
from California, finished work this
June as a dairy manufacturing
major.
Highway Patrol
Uses Dummies
RALEIGH, N.C. Ift If you speed
by a highway patrol car here and
the driver doesn't give chase, it's
probably because he's dumb.
The fact is the patrol has rigged
up dummies complete with hel
mets and sun glasses to scare
drivers into slower speeds.
It will take a sharp motorist to
tell the real thing.
Lack, a New York manufacturer, I
who, Small told police, was steal
ing his wife's affections.
Leo Hoffman, defense counsel,
said that Small would plead tem
porary insanity. He also granted a
waiver, permitting Mrs. Small to
testify for the prosectuion.
A wife may not, normally, testify
against her husband.
Hoffman said Dr. Small was
worried over his wife's divorce ac
tion against him last April, after
she had met Lack in Florida. He
said that Mrs. Small had lent Lack
S1C.0OO of her $125,000 Inheritance.
Small worried too, Hoffman said,
over the future of their three small
sons.
Small told them he walked into 1
the swank summer home near Al
legan where his wife, Lack and
four others were spending the
Memorial Day weekend. They said
Small told them he shot Lack twice
with a shotgun.

Paraguay Voting
ASUNCION, Paraguay m Gen.
Aflredo Stroessner, commander of
Paraguay's armed forces, won
hands down in yesterday's presi
dential election. He was unopposed,
Stroessner, candidate of the Col
orado party, Paraguay's only legal
political group, takes office Aug.

Chaves, whom he toppled In a re
volt last May. The term runs un
til February 1958.
