Cougar Visits
local Ranch
The cry of a cougar at dusk, Sat
urday evening, June 19, startled
Mrs. Otis Metsker, resident of
Bhady Pine, as she fed calves in
the feed lot on me u. w. nitra
ranch, eight miles north of Klam
ath Palls on the old highway.
Mrs. Metsker looked up to see the
animal stretched on a log inside
the corral fence. She called for her
husband, who was at the house, but
before he arrived with a gun the
cougar bad leaped the fence and
disappeared into the forest.
Jerry Martin, owner of trained
cougar hounds, was called to the
ranch but no further trace of the
animal was found. Men and dogs
hunted the rocky hillside until af
ter dark.
. Residents of the area are familiar
. with a cougar family that rears
' young in a cave on the hill and
Mrs. Metsker believes the one she
saw was probably a half grown.

ment had already notified the man
ager of the hotel to remedy the
situation.
An ordinance calling for a spe
cial election on July 23 to give
voters a chance to express their
views on proposed annexation of
a 50-acre area southeast of the
city limits was passed. There, are
400 property owners In the district.

ceived his doctor's degree in Son Francisco, arrived in Klamoth
Foils Soturdoy, to spend a fortnight visiting friends ond relatives,
after which he will return to the boy city to serve as on interne
in one of the large hospitals. Adorns is o member of o prominent
pioneer family of Klamoth Falls. ,
