Oregon Lakes Get Kokanee Ten of Oregon's lakes are due to receive almost one million kokanee tnis year according to chief libera tion biologist Reino Koski of the Oregon State Game Commission. Commission hatcheries at Oak ridge. Wiiard Palls on the Metolius River, and Enterprise are raising the fish which will be released as fingerlings and fry. varying in size from about one-half Inch to three inches. Kokanee were established in Sut tle and Wallowa lakes many years ago and since have been placed in eight lakes. In some cases they have been planted as forage fish for other species but in all areas have grown Into good sized catch-, able fish. The kokanee Is the landlocked form ol the red or sockeye salmon and Is referred to also as yank and blueback. Lakes due for releases of ko kanee are Odell, Summit, Crescent, Woahink. Blue (Jefferson County), Guttle, Big Cultus, Big, Wallowa, and the Rock Creek lakes in Baker County.
