I hot traveled right down the line from all type of starts to Ratals, motels, theaters, forages, strvka statioM, charckot and tavaras. It sttm that oar goad aid Amtricaa way af life whtra wa art all crtatod equal regardless of race, religion or our business profession is oome times forgotten. . You no doubt hove heard of the Dorris incident. I feel thot tho.citisons hovo the right to know the true facts. In my fifteen years af law enforcement I kava never been relieved af my duties and the vary weak and only excuse (because I didn't have a leave af absence) stems little far-fetched. I have never been knawn to threw mud but the citizens of lurte Valley wha do know the truth about ft feel that it is strictly to discredit mo in my campaign. I Mid once and I will toy again I did have leave of absence. Betty Gravier, o Dorris Council woman, Monley "Jack" Grevier her husband (who was appointed Constable and deputy sheriff at Cotter's request) and Sheriff Cottar himself were seea together after the Itna Rodeo at the Erne Tavern for several hours by o good many people and among them were Mr. and Mrs. Russell Howard, Mr, aad Mrs. $, H. Reeves, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Arndt just to mention a few from Butte Valley. The next evening the Dorris City Council met and I was fired. Now how does that look to you? While working the county the past 7 weeks I hove as yet foiled to spend one dey contacting people thet I heven't seen at I tost one deputy sheriff out working for Cottar at the voters aipanse. Da yen realise these men are drawing salary plus mileage? The Sheriffs' Of fice states o little less then .03c of each ta dollar it usad to run hit department but he did not stale thet the revenue for Siskiyou County amounted to approiimotely $9,000,000. Mr, Cottar has harped te the churches, the Christien people throughout the county, obout hit clean, honest administration and started rumors that if I was alected sheriff my intentions were to open up Siskiyou County. I soy, and (you voters must agree) thot Mr. Cottar must first close the county before ft could be opened. At you know there has always been vice in this county during his administration ond it con bo proved he hos mislead the church people on this subject. Not long ago at a church gothering in Dorris where Mr. Cottar wes speaking, a good Christie lady osked him if there wort any houses of ill repute operating at this time in Siskiyou County. His onswer was emphatically NO! Not during his term of office. Now if you wont the true facts, just read the article in the Merch 24, 1J4 issue of The Sen Francisco Eiaminer pertaining to Siskiyou County. During the three years thot I wos Chief of Police of Dorris wt hod no vice In our town and wt went for 2 ytort without a Juvenile case. I want tha public to know that I have mode no commitments or pram. Ises and that I havt no special privileged characters running around Siskiyou County thot con oik for fovors. My post hos no block marks and is on open book so If the shtrlff would Ilka ta compare charocteri, he it most welcome to do so. As for my aiperience In low enforcement work I hovo briefcase full of recom mendation! from very responsible people pertaining to ovary position I have held. These recommendations are available far the public's Inspection. Incidentally, If tha voters are wondering how the lutta Valley Star (Dorris Weekly Peperl stands in this election, they are support! rt of Cottar and have pieced bets against me. Agoln I would like to thank eoch and everyone of you ond regardless af haw wa cast our ballot It Is our duty to vote to let's all fa to lha polls this coming Junt 8th, 1954. Sincerely, Jsmion fi.
