ELMO STEVENSON Modoc Scout Council Meets Dr. Elmo Stevenson, president ot Southern Oregon College, will be principal speaker at the 18th an nual meeting ot the Modoc Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, to be held Sunday, May 23. The meeting will be held in the Klam ath Falls Armory and will begin with a 1 p.m. luncheon to be served by Jen-Eds. William G. Ely, president of the council, will preside and Vern Owens, meeting chairman,' will act as master ot ceremonies. Parents and persons inter ested in scouting are cordially in vited to attend the council meeting Langell Soil Hearing Slated Notice of a hearing on the pro posal to extend the boundaries of the Langell Valley Soil Conserv' tion District has been received from the State Soil Conservation Committee at Corvallis. According to the uotice 29 land' owners adjacent to the nrosent boundaries have forwarded a signed petition to the. committee requesting the Inclusion ot addi tional territory into the district. A public hearing will be held on the proposal at 8 p.m. June 4, at the Langell valley soil conserva tion District office, in Bonanza, at which time all persons, firms and corporations holding title to any lands lying within the limits of the territory and all other interested parties are Invited to attend and will be given an opportunity to be beard. U.S. Jobless List Declines WASHINGTON Iff Fresh Labor Department figures point to in im provement in the unemployment situation. The department's Bureau of Employment Security said yester day unemployment among workers covered by state Jobless insurance declined by 56,800 during the week ended May 8 to a new levrt of 2.124.000 ihe lowest in three months, but. still well above the ,10u total a year ago. We've told you some ot what CAP is. some ot Its history, how we re 11' nanced, and what some of our mis sions are. This time we'd like to tell you about our cadet program, what we learn, and who Is eligible for CAPC- The cadet program was designed to develop in youth an awareness of the social, political, economic, International and vocational as pects in aviation. As Junior mem bers of the Civil Air Patrol or ganization, Uie cadets were pro vided with a comprehensive back ground in aviation fundamentals an military procedures. Cadets are acquainted with flight fundamentals' and are trained in ground search and rescue tech niques. Cadets do not get flight Instruction, however, with the par ents permission, orientation flights are given cadets by CAP seniors and Air Force personnel at various Intervals throughout their training. The cadets also receive training In the power of flight, the path of flight weather, air traffic con trol, national and international problems of safety and control, vocational opportunities In avia tion, radio, code, navigation, pho tography, and meteorology. Anyone 15 years old or In high school Is eligible for CAPC. if their parents are American citizens and if they have satisfactory grades in scnooi. to Join CAPC, visit the unit in Klamath Falls, which holds meetings every Monday night, 6:45 to 8:45, at Altamont Junior High on South Sixth Street. CAP Cadets will not be expected to Join the Air Force, nor will being in -cadets hold any bearing on your draft status. CAP Cadets may wear the Air Force uniform with certain distinc tive inslgnlas. CAP and CAPC members are expected to purchase their own uniforms. The local squadron or the state wing does not buy the uniforms.
