Woman Leads Busy Life Mrs. Joe (Gladys) Halousek, na tive daughter of Malta, is a busy woman but she heard her second appointment within a year to the Klamath County grand Jury, with out batting an eye. She served the first term with six men jurors. AU were recently re-appointed by Circuit Judge Da vid R. Vandenberg. Men jurors were Loy Barker, Haarby Bechen, chairman, Homer Stiles, Earl Kent, Charles Dixon and Bill Bechdolt. Mrs. Halousek. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Daniel, Malin pio neers, is the mother of two Boy Scout sons, Neal 10, and Gary, 12. She has been a den mother and wields a wicked hammer when the gang" gathers to build bird- houses. She is a member of the Malin Parents and Patrons, has been a .member of Prosperity Chapter, Ota. No. 160 for 14 years. and is secretary of. the Fast Ma tron's Club: has just been elected president of the Malin Home Ex tension Unit and is a member of the Malin Garden Club. House Approves Oregon Projects WASHINGTON Wl The House Public works Subcommittee Mon day approved approximately 13 million dollars worth of river and harbor projects for Oregon. Largest of the projects was the 8 !j million dollar Columbia River project which calls for deepening the- channel at the river s mouth from 40 to 48 feet and eventual construction of a Jetty. Other projects approved Include construction of a jetty and im proved channel facilities at the mouth of the Rogue River near Gold Beach at a cost of 83,822,000, end similar harbor improvements at Umpqua Harbor on the Schol field River near Reedsport at a cost of $51,000. Work on the projects cannot be gin until full congressional approv al is granted and money appropriated. Inc.; which has Just been released, shows that the youth agency's most significant accom plishment for the year 1953 was ac quisition of its own equipment di vision. Kno.vn officially as Camp Fire Girls, Inc., Supply Division, it began its operations by re-slyllng and Improving the quality of serv ice costumes worn by 7 to 18 year old members of the youth or ganization. New merchandise, pro gram aids and publications were made available by the Supply Di vision in line with Camp Fire's continued efforts to improve serv ices for its membership. According to the report, the Na- tlonal Council of Camp Fire Girls, the govering body of men and wom en volunteers, carried out a viar round study of its program objec tives. Purpose of the study, which Is being continued this year, is to better acquaint the membership with the basic alms of Camp Fire: to bridge the gap between objectives and practices and to provide a base for determining by research the extent to which these objectives are being achieved. Camp Fire, founded in 1910. pro vides a health and character-huild-ing program for girls of all races, religions and economic background in nearly 3,000 communities across the nation. The three age gruups served are Blue Birds, 7 to 10: Camp Fire Girls, 10 to 15, and Horizon Club members, who are the 9th grade through high school students. .
