By LYLE DOWNING When Edwin Abbott (Taxi) Thomas, city engineer and oldest employe in point of service on the Klamath Falls municipal payroll started his career, his chief am bitfon was to see all the world. It it hadn't been for his old friend. City Attorney Henry Pert' Ins, he might hare achieved this ambition. Pentins convmced him in 1926 that "rolling stones gather no moss" and he had better settle down In Klamath Falls. Thomas really took the city at torney's settling down advice to heart. In the past 28 years he hasn't stirred out of town, except on a few short vacation. Taxi Thomas first saw the light of day in Denver, Colorado, on July 33. 1694. He attended the pub lic schools in Denver and was grad uated from the University of Colo rado with an enginnering degree . It was in Boulder. Colorado. where Thomas won the sobriquet "Taxi." Old schoolmates say in those days he was a gay and high- rolling blade with the motto first class or I don t riae." As a free spender and a guy who liked to put on the dog, in his senior year at the university he was also known as quite a hand with the ladies. One evening he pulled up in front of a sorortly house with a for-hlre automobile and a liveried chauffeur. He became city engineer in 1930 ana has held the Job ever since. , Airman Returns To Claim Medals ST. LOUIS iJRU. (Jgi Roland G. Busch Jr., 36. last night officially was awarded three medals which his parents had received when he was reported killed In action in Korea. The medals the Distinguished Flying Cross, a second Air Medal and Purple Heart were taken from the officer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Busch Sr., Cape Gtiar deau. Mo., and presented to the pilot. Lt. Busch was reported killed in Korea In the crash ot his plane in 1(52. But he managed to drag him self from his plane before lt ex ploded. He was held prisoner In North Korean and Chinese prison camps is months. Busch, now assistant operations officer at the air station here, was the first Navy officer released by the Communists Aug. 30. 1963.
