Lowell, 17, last to get into the service has been sent to San Diego for boot framing. Robert, a member of the Sth Marines of the 1st Marine Division, the same regi ment to which Major Simlik was attached. Robert and Ernest are to report to Camp Pendleton, California, April 20. In most locations, the Dennis Day Show is on at the same time j on Monday night as "I Love-Lucy." This took real nerve, since "Lucy" has drawn the biggest audience In TV for the past two years. "Believe me, it wasn't my Idea to go opposite Lucy." Dennis told "if me. "I wanted to do my show on V- film. My sponsor, RCA, didn't want me to. The only way I could ! . get permission was to agree to take " the spot opposite Lucy. So I did It. y "I took a chance and I failed. i- I think it was a mistake putting ' such a similar show opposite Lucy. ' We both have situation comedy. ', We had good mall from people who said they had switched over to watch us. Qnce they made the change, they seemed to like our - show. But watching 'Lucy' is too great a habit for the majority of viewers. We Just couldn't fight lt.'i The show has been dropped by RCA, which Dennis says is con centrating its fortune on the trans ition to color TV. In Canada, where don't have to face Lucy, ours is the No, 1 show." I asked Dennis why he insisted on filmed shows as against live. which he did in his first two years on TV. "I think film Is a lot better for a show like mine," he remarked. "Sometimes I play as many as eight different characters in one sketch, which would be impossible to do live, "when I was doing the show live, it was -nerve-wracking.
