Speaks To GOC
Seventy-five enthusiastic mem
bers arid friends were present. at
the regular monthly meeting of
the Ground Observer Corps held
Wednesday evening, and heard Lt,
Marlin Guerink speak.
LI. Guerink was in Klamath
Falls to present an agreement, to
City Council whereby interceptor
aircraft from McChord Air Farce
Base may land at the local airport
for refueling, rearming, etc., in
case ot an emergency. Permission
was granted by the council, and
Lt, Guerink wa invited by GOC
Supervisor Rnss Avery to attend
the GOC meeting.
Lt. Guerink talked on jet inter.
ceptor operations in connection
with radar and the Ground Ob
server Corps. He also presented
"wings" to those members who
bad earned them.
On the business side, members
discussed general post operations,
tilled schedules with new volun
teers, and voted to claim two-hour
credits tor each regular meeting
attended. Any member enlisting
new active volunteers Will receive
six-hour credits.
To facilitate operations, window
washing equipment was donated by
Betty Costell and a plate glasj
top for the table in the post was
donated by Gertrude Banta, cut
and sized free by Kimball's Glass
Shop.
Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Searles, re
cently married, were honored
guests of the evening and were
surprised with Rifts Irollowing en
tertainment.
The Dutch auction was received
favorably . and netted ' the croun
S16.42.
Mrs. Walter Jones, chief observ
er, reported that an err.ergeniy
exists In the observer schedule,
three watches must be filled two
from 3 to 4 a.m. and one from 12
to 2 a.m. Volunteers are urged to
call Mrs. Jones at 3963.

The announcement of the ap
pointment of Mrs. Keith Cobo.
Klamath Falls, to serve as Girl
Scout executive, was made this
week, to coincide with the annual
celebration of the birthday anni
versary of Girl Scouting.
Mrs. cooo s official Utie is Coun
cil Assistant, pending confirma
tion by the national office of ber
status as executive director.
She will succeed Shirley Mat-
roll, who has held the position
since September 133. Miss Mat-
roll, who will return to her home
state, Minnesota, to continue
proiessional scout wort, anil re-
mam in Klamath Falls until the
end of May to assure the best
possible continuity of service to
local troops.
Mrs. Cobo has worked In scout
ing as a volunteer for more than
10 years, as leader, committee
member and board member and
has directed day camps, both here
ana in cauiomla.
She attended San Mateo Junior
College. Oregon State College, and
the Schacffer School of Design in
San Francisco. During World War
II she taught weaving In the Vet
eran's Hospital at Treasure Island
under Red Cross arts and skill
programs. For two years she was
