The score was 100-90. Ted Schadcwitz and Larry Pryse each scored 24 points for the winners. Frank Orove paced OCE with 23. EOCE grabbed a 29-23 first quarter advantage and held the lead throughout the game. Eastern Oregon won the title Friday night with its 87-67 victory over OCE. Eastern Oregon plays Southern Oregon in non-conference games at La Grande Monday and Tuesday. Next Friday and Saturday, Eastern Oregon closes Its conference season with a pair against Portland State at Portland. But McCoy canned five straight foul sjhots as Ashland went ahead 41-35 and stayed on top the rest of the way, 81-40 heading into the last quarter. The Klamath club outscored Ash land, 18-13 in the last quarter but had loo far to go. The Pels outshot the Grizzlies from the field, 22-19 but Ashland took advantage of 30 Klamath fouls to dunk 26 free throws to Just 14 for the Pels on 17 Ashland fouls. McCoy ended with 20 points and Ted Tenney added 17 for Ashland. Don Mills chipped in with 10 to go with Barron's 14. Klamath Falls won the Junior varsity preliminary game, 54-17. Rainiers Sign Al Brightman SEATTLE lip, The Seattle Rainiers of the Pacific Coast League announced Saturday they had signed Al Brlgntman, coach of the Seattle University, basket ooll team, as a coach for the Rainiers. Brightman will continue at SU. Dewey Soriano, general mana ger of the Rainiers, said Bright- man would be used as a first base coach, to work with young play ers and scout for talent. Bright- man will work for the Rainiers each season after college basket ball ends. Brightman, who also coaches' the SU diamond squad, played pro fessional baseball wllh Baltimore and Montgomery, Ala. When Vernon Joe fouled Rick, it was the Chiloquin field general's filth foul and he watched with tears in his eyes from the bench as the Malin captain made good on his first of two from the charity line. Malin got the rebound when Rick missed his second shot and played catch as , the Panthers tried des perately to get hold of the ball (or a last shot at the, basket. SEVEN SECONDS But the cat-and-mouse game ticked off the time and there was Just seven seconds left when Chilo quin managed to bring a whistle on a lump ball. But Rod Lyon got the tip ana was shoved out of bounds by George as he closed in for a lay up that missed fire as the final buzzer sounded. Malin Jumped kilo a 13-9 first- quarter lead, then pumped up a 10-point advantage at 11-21 alter Vernon Joe closed It to 11-13. That's when the spunky Panthers staged their first rally to close it to 20-21 on a layup by Ted Siemens, another by George, a free throw by Dick Siemens, and two more two-pointers by George. But Ray Johnson and Norm Oliva hit in that order and the Panthers had another uphill climb on their hands. TAKE CHARGE But George and Dick Siemens took charge after the rest period as Jo Jo, on a layup and free throw, cut It down to 25-27. Lyon's jump snot worked once tor Mann but George and . Dick Siemens re taliated with two baskets In a row to tie it at 29 and Dick Siemens gave Chiloquin Its first lead of the game except for Vernon Joe's first basket of the game at 31-29. Travis, on a layup and jump shot, tied it at 36-all and from that point every basket brought the crowd to its feet as the two teams battled right down to the end From the 36-all deadlock, Dick Siemens tossed in a free throw and added a layup to give Chiloquin a three-point lead. Rick on a Jump shot and Lyon with, a hook gave the lead bacavto Malin but George sent the two. teams into the fourth quarter tied at 40-all wllh a free throw. SCORES FIRST George scored first under the fourth-quarter tipoff and the Pan thers went ahead 45-41 later when George stole the ball at mldcourt and raced down for another layup and Vernon Joe added a free throw. " But when Ivan Joe fouled out with 4:08 to go, Travis made good on a free throw and Rick followed with a jump shot to put Malin just one point shy of a tie at 44-45, Lyon tied it at 45 with 3:10 left on a tree throw, then Vernon Joe scored on a jump shot and Chiloquin was ahead 47-45. Then Lyon and Georne traded cozy layins and it was 49-47 Chiloquin with just two minutes left. Then came Travis' long conver sion and Rick's all-important shot on the house. Bonanza gave Sacred Heart trou ble In the consolation game and trailed Just 13-15 at the half and tied It at 18-all early In the third. But three straight set shots by Dlno Reginato late in the third gave the Trojans a 27-20 lead be ginning the fourth quarter and the Academy breezed in from there over the Cinderella team of the tournament.
