Senate Committee Defends Program WASHINGTON ( A Senate foreign relations subcommittee srjs that what the U. s. propaganda-Information program needs most is a three to four year re spite from congressional investi gations and administrative shake ups. Sen. Hickenlooper (R-Iown) filed the report with the Senate Wednes day, ending the subcommittee's 18 months study of the program. The Senate investigations sub committee headed by Sen. McCar thy (R-Wis) has announced plans lo revive its own investigation of the program, possibly late this month. The McCarthy group has charged that the program under Democratic administration was weakened scriouslv by Communist infiltration. The Hickenlooper sub committee made no such findings in its study of now tne Democrats ran the program but in a report to Congress last June did list many other reasons why it con tended the program had been less efiective than it should have been. Hollywood Star Denies Rumor HOLLYWOOD 11 June Haver admitted Thursday she is dating no one else but Fred MacMurray but said "it's too early" to discuss marriage. The MacMurray-Haver combina tion became the talk of Hollywood when they first started dating a tew weeks ago. Talk of a romance will increase when the Iwo leave for the Brazil Ian film festival next Thursday. They will be part of a Hollywood good will contingent. Retired Minister Fills Local Pulpit ' Till After Easter The Rev. Albert O. Broylcs will fill the pulpit at the Congregational Church, 315. Garden, from now until after Easier. A series of sermons dealing with the Easter theme is planned for each Sunday, leading up to the Easter service. This week the Rev. Broyles sermon topic will be "The Man Who Betrayed Jesus." The Rev. Broylcs is a retired Baptist minister, v.-IUi a record of over 65 years in the ministry. Church Attendance Crusade is Current Mrs. Paul Rummell, district sec retary of publicity of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church, lias announced plans for the current national cru sade for church attendance. "The Women's Society of Chris tian Service of the Methodist Church Is actively participating in several areas of the general church program," Mrs. Rummel states. "The youth emphasis phase of 'Christ above all' is carried out through the leadership of local youth secretaries." "The national crusade for church attendance, now in progress, finds many women visiting members who are not attending church regu larly. Laki Community Church, presented a challenging message to Christian Endeavor members who gathered February 4 at the First Christian Church for the banquet and rally. The event was in commemoration of Christian Endeavor Week, January 31 to February 6. The topic of the Rev. Ainley's talk was "So Send I You." He urged that Christian Endeavorers should be enthusiastic followers of Christ, since they have the great est Captain who knows all their needs apd temptations. They also have the greatest task to perform. The speaker reminded the young people of Christ's words, "As the Father hath sent Me, so send I you." (Matt. 21:21) We should never underestimate our Captain for all things are pos sible with Him," stated the Rev. Ainley. "From His followers He expects loyalty and service." ; In attendance at the rally and banquet were young people from Merrill, Malln, Tulelake, Mt. Laki and the First Christian Church of Klamath Falls. There was a total of 181 persons, which far exceeded the expectations. The banquet dinner was prepared by a committee headed by Mrs. Clarence Bell and Mrs. Harold Sturgeon. Skits and musical num bers were presented by various groups of Junior, Intermediate and senior C E-ers during the meal. Elaine Kendall led the group singing. Toastmaster.
