S3, and Howard Puts, 30, Eugene orothers, were held under 1,000 ball each Thursday after arraign ment on a charge of stealing a million reet of timber lrom gov ernment land. Their attorney. Bart Cole, asked U. S. Commissioner Robert Leedy to set low bail so tha hrniher would be free and able to seek a man who contracted to have the Umber cut. Cole said the older brother had a 12,000 contract lo do the cutting which the government says was on O Ic C land near Cot tage Orove. The brothers went to, Jail alter the hearing when their bail money was Hoi immediately available. They were arrested Wednesday on the complaint of the Bureau of Land Management that they had cut about 175,000 worth of timber on government land. Cole said it had not been deter mined whether a preliminary hear ing would be sought. Three of those years were spent in Korea, and ' his parents, friends and other relatives were glad to have had him home for a several week's furlough. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Alexis of: California, who recently bought out the Cleve snider holdings, were visiting the James snider family last Sunday. They plan to move up later this month, and he and James will be partners in operating the Snider ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Noble re ceived the news t at her brotner, Hush Maxwell, had died at Pas kenta, California, January 19. Mrs. Noble's sister, Mrs. Nell Woff of Idaho, and the Noble's two daugh ters, Mrs. Eddie Owens of Klamath Falls and Mrs. Jane Ann Fowler of Medford, accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Claude Noble to Paskenta for the funeral. While they were away, Dave Noble stayed with his aunt and uncle at the Jonn Richard son ranch. Sincere sympathy is ex tended the Noble family In their bereavement. Bennle and his bride will make their home at the Ver-i non ranch and his father and moth er, Mr. and Mrs. Will Vernon, have purchased a home in Lakeview and are moving their household furni ture this week. Tim vernons are nlannlng to take a several weeks' trip. They will leave the latter part of the week for Red Blulf where Will plans to attend the bull sale Friday and Sat urday. From there they will go south.
