The owner said he had been los ing money for five years, the num ber of passengers dropping from 1.500 daily in 1948-49 to 400 re cently. A line serving a Southwest Port land area quit recently, then agreed to resume for a 90-day trial to see if a nickel increase in fares would produce a profit. . The owner of the North Parkrose line said a fare increase would not help him. Estacad.a-Molalla Stages was permitted Wednesday to increase Its fares five cents per passenger, and to add 5 cents per express shipment. Public Utilities Commissioner Charles H. Hcltzcl, who issued the order, said the company had rev enues of $35,000 in the first 10 months of last year, and lost $5,300 during that period. The increase, he said, would per mit the company to make a very small profit, if it doesn't lose any passengers.
