Kean fll-NJj today proposed a compro mise of sharp differences over corporation income tax rates which now divide key House tax writers and the Elsenhower administra tion. Significant as one of the first public moves in this direction, Kean's proposal would 1 con tinue the present 52 per cent corporate income tax rate through 19M and (2) lower It to 50 per cent effective next Jan. 1. . President Eisenhower has asked Congress to keep corporate taxes where they are for another year. But a number of GOP tax writers on Oapitoi Hill, and some Demo crats, favor letting it drop to 47 per cent a& scheduled April 1. Top square dance event of the month is the International Dance Jamboree to be held in the Fred Meyer warehouse on Portland's famous Swan Island. The Oregon Journal, Al Kader Shrine Temple and KFOJ are co operating in staging this event. The building will, accommodate 4,000 dancers and the spectator section will seat 6,000. Pickup Leads To Jail Rap EPHRATA Ifl A 30ryear)ld Korean war veteran arrested for picking up two young servicemen P. Stadelman Dies at 82 THE DALLES Ifl Peter J Stadelman. Oregon secretary of State in 1034 and 1935, died at his home here Sunday after a short Illness. He was Stadelman, who was appointed to the post by Gov. Julius Meier, also served as a Republican state senator from Wasco and Hood River counties from 1936 to 1047. He was city councilman at The Dalles from 1008 to 1914 and mayor from 1918 to 1928. He founded the Stadelman Ice and Fruit Co. a number of years ago. The firm now operates a number of plants in Oregon and Washington. Stadelman also was a founder and the first president ol the Citizens National Bank here.
