Even before he went to his grave
some of his admirers launched a
plan to erect a memorial to him
in Death Valley.

77, to whom Scotty was married
in 1900.
Their son. Walter Scott Jr., 39,
is a Navy lieutenant at Oak Har
bor, Wash.. Nnval Air Station. He
visited Scotty last August.
Scotty's grave is on a knoll over
looking the three million dollar
castle, a Moorish palace In the
wasteland which he fitted with a
500,000 pipe organ and luxurious
furnishings.
Scotty told uncounted wild tales
about, the source of his wealth,
but all tbat could be accounted for
came from his friend and bene
factor, Albert M. Johnson, a Chi
cago insurance executive who died
six years ago.
Truck Rates
May Be Cut

aminer has recommended a reduc
tion of interstate truck rates in
some Pacific Northwest areas.
In a report to the ICC, Exam
iner Samuel Horwich said Wednes
day that in an answer to com
plaints from some shipping inter
ests a 15 per cent increase placed
in effect in Montana. Wyoming and
Colorado In 1952 should be reduced
to 12 per cent to match rates in
effect in Washington, Oregon and
Idaho.
Horwich explained the truckers
put a general 6 per cent increase
in effect throughout the area in
1952. But to maintain relationships
between interstate and intrastate
rates, Washington. Oregon and Id
aho added six per cent and Mon
tana, Wyoming and Colorado I per
cent. "
