A '-.out 25 local men have been employed there. Four servicemen were home on Christmas furloughs. Elvin Elden, son oi Mr. and Mrs. Fred Elden is home from Manila where he has been for nine months. Douglas Hus ton, accompanied by his wife and baby daughter, arrived Thursday from Fort Lewis, Wash., to spend Christmas with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Huston. Denis Frazee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Or- ville Frazee, came from the Ma rine B.ise at San Diego and Pic. James Elder, son of Elmer Elder of Bly, flew to Paisley from San Diego, and is visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George El der. A 1953 car went off the road near the 7T ranch Thursday after noon. Dec. 24. and totally demol ished the car. The car was owned and driven by Van Oliver who was returning to his home in Paisley after Christmas shopping in Lake view. An approaching car, on the wronp; side of the road, sideswiped Oliver's car and caused it to go out of control and into a fence alter rolling over teveral times. The other car failed to stop. Oliver ex caped with a wrenched knee and a head laceration. Mr. and Mrs. Kent Garland are the proud parents of a son born Dec. 16. Mis. Garlnnd is the form er Genevieve Pochclu. The Gar lands live in Eugene. Mr. and Mrs. George Meinken- mier of Burns announce the birth of a daughter, Peggy Sue, born lhoy.ond. of doctor.'- (Bronchial! I Dec. 15. Mr. and Mrs. George Elder ac companied by Delia McCollough and Mr. and Mrs. Fint Banister of Lakeview will leave Thursday for Portland where they will spend the week. Pamela Elder and Kar en Banister will stay with the Clyde Bramlcttes while their par ents are away. Several children have had infect ed throats and ears the past week. Little Pamela Elder was taken to Lakeview for medical care where it was found necessary to lnnce her ear. Bobby Plumb has been quite ill with a sore throat. Orville Porter has been ill from in fection in his ears. All are on the way to recovery. Mrs. A. L. Lamon received word Wednesday of the sudden death of her sister in Netchow, Wis. The sister had visited the Lamons here recently. Mrs. Delia McCollough enter tained all her children and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Walker, Perry Banister and War ren Miles with a turkey dinner on Christmas Day. Mr. and Mrs. George Delarm bad as their Christmas dinner guest a sister, Mrs. Betty Julley and family. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stewart invited the Michael Barrys and Jack Murphys to dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Tobe Hanan and children, Mr. and Mrs. James Staf ford and Mrs. Eda Hnnan ate din ner at the Jones ranch Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Van Morgan en tertained their children and their grandchildren at their ranch home. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hanan, Debby and Ricky drove to San Francisco and spent Christmas with the parents of Mrs. Hanan. Will Lundford, who underwent surgery Dec. 19. in Stan ford Hospital, is recovering nicely and is expected to leave the hos pital soon. The Federated Church held their Christmas pageant Dec. 20, and money received from a free-will offering taken during the evening will be used tor repairs to tne com munity church in Cedarville, which suffered damage from 8 recent fire. Pedersons in their residence on Court Street. Refreshments were served from a table beautifully decorated with ca thedral candles and angels. Among the out-of-town guests were daughter. Mrs. Betty Williams of Concord, and Mrs. Josephine San ders of Fairfax, a sister of Mrs. Pederson. Another daughter, Mrs, Marylin Tipton, lives in Alturas. The Pedersons were married in Reno 25 years ago and have lived in Alturas since. Pederson is em ployed by the REA. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Daft and Mr. and Mrs. Russ Enderlin were hosts to 150 guests at the A. W. Mc Caughan home on East Street Dec. 19. Carrying out the Yule theme, all the rooms were dec orated In bells, evergreens and rib bon, with a modernistic touch to the enclosed patio where the buffet supper was served. The wall above the large buffet table was decorated with copper ribbon and silver bead ing, which was carried out with a copper trimming down the center of the table, touched off with green candles. The large garage was con verted into a rumpus room for re freshments and dancing. The Xi Phi and Ritual of Jewels Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held their annual Christmas party Dec. 21 at the home of Mrs. G. B. Dor ris. The party is the time for re vealing the secret sister of each member and drawing another name for the coming year. Many beautiful gifts were exchanged and delicious refreshments served by hostesses Dorothy Dorris, Nadine Austin, Mary Jane Fruit, Thelma Barker, Jewell Philips and Helene Jett. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Jett left Dec. 21 for Los Angeles and Mexico City for the holidays. Jett is em ployed as manager of Modoc Med ical Center; Mrs. Jett works lor the firm of Robnett and Wilson. Gay, who is a junior at Ore , gon State and a member of the Madrigal Choir, returned to Cor- vaills Jan. 3. The Harry Pinneo's were first place winners in the outdoor Christ mas lighting. Their display de picted Santa's reindeer breakimr through the window glass, set off by a pins-sprayea pine tree covered with colored Christmas balls. The three sets of reindeer were cut from silver paper and gave the appearance of silhouettes with the I lights in the background. winners of the second place prize were Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGarva on East Street. Seth Dixon re turned Wednesday, Dec. 30 from Roseburg, where they spent Christmas week with his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Will Dix on. They were accompanied by their houseuuest of the past three months, Mrs. Dixon's sister, Mrs. Margaret Doty, Berkeley. Calif. On Sunday, Jan. 3, the Dlxons and Mrs. Doty left for San Francisco to spend the winter months. Occupying the Dixon residence will be his ranch foreman and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Oorden. who moved Sunday from the Dixon ranch at Seven Mile. On Sunday, Dec. 27, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond S. Loosley and Joan made a trip to Eugene, where they were overnight visitors at the home of another daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Carpenter and children. Carpenter is attending Bible School in Eu gene, preparing to enter the min istry in mid-August. The Senior Loosleys returned Monday; while Joan drove with friends to Belling ham, Wash., where they attended an inter-varsit religious confer ence. At Its conclusion, the troup planned to go to British Columbia before Joan returned to Ashland to College. . Mr. and Mrs. Loosley received a letter recently from their son. Crew Chief Wilfred Loosley. sta tioned with the USAF on an Island 40 miles from Korea. The letter explained why his parents had not heard from him regularly for some time past. In his duties as crew chief, Wilfred was supervising Jumps of a squad of paratroopers. When the last man had jumped, he poked his head out the door to watch the paratroopers descent to earth, and the gale from the plane snatched the youth's eyeglasses off. They were literally "gone with the wind. As a consequence, Wil fred was unable to write home un til he had visited an oculist and had new glasses made. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett McKeever have gone to Vernonia to spend the winter months and visit rela tives there. Mr. and Mrs. Verne Bertsch and small daughter returned Saturday from Burley, Idaho, where they spent the Christmas holidays with her parents. Mrs. Grace McAruiur was win ner of the third place prize. Airs. McArthur painted Santa, his rein deer and the sleighload of toys on the front window extending around to the side, with blue paper covep tng the entire display for a back ground effect. A fourth prize was given to the Paul Dubois for their window out lined in aluminum foil depicting a large frome for, the Christmas tree in back. The door was dec orated to resemble a large pack age, and on the porch was a large aluminum star with the red light blinking on and off. The whole ef fect carried a modernistic touch to show as attractively in the day time as at night. The ten winners of honorable mention were Harold Nelson, Bill Bartrum, Leon Smith, Francis Bal lard, Charles Asher, Frank Char rler, Ray Brennan. Oral Leonard- Buster Spicer and Robert Fruit. Mrs. Moretta Powers, chairman of the Northern Rebekah good fel lowship committee, reports the S85.85 raised through a good fel- lowsnip pany in the lodge a few weeks ago has been mailed to the Rebekah Assembly of California for the president's project, which is me installation of a new heating system for the Odd Fellows home for aged members of the IOOF and Rebekahs at Saratoga. Mr. and Mrs. Salve Bue and daughter, Ida Lee, of Burney, vis ited with the Charles Demicks re cently. Gilbert Hughes, who spent Christ mas In Allui'as with his mother and relatives, left. Dale Williams, newly elected State Senator from the first Califor nia district, took his oath of office Dec. 29, in a quiet ceremony be fore Mrs. Millicent Dubois, deputy county clerk of Modoc Countv. Williams stated that he plan's to establish interim legislative offices in Alturas. The new Senator will resume his seat at the State Capi tol March 1. when the California legislature begins its budget ses sion. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vogt, par ents of Mrs. Fritz Nosier of Altur as, were honored at a buffet sup per and reception recently in ob servance of their golden wedding anniversary. Some 50 friends and relatives gathered In the Mallard Room of the Hotel Modoc for the event. A gold theme was carried out in the room and the smorgas bord table carried a matching ar rangement of large golden mums with autumn foliage. The cake table was decorated with trindles of metallic gold candles and baby mums. Mrs. Vogt wore a corsage of gold roses. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. Ora Buck, sister of Mr. Vogt: Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Silva and Dr. and Mrs. Roger Dan iels. Sacramento: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nosier. Jess Rightmier is in very poor health and Is confined to his home. Frequent visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rightmier are their son, daughter and their families, Roy Rightmier, Klamath Falls, and Mrs. Paul Breithaupt, Poe Valley. Lawrence Smith returned Sun day, Jan. 3 to report for duty aboard his ship in San Diego, Calif, after a two weeks' furlough during which he visited here with friends and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Noah. Here on a 72-hour pass this week end from San Luis Obispo was Floyd Hescock. U. S. Army. With his wife and small son, he visited his family, the Wilbur B. Hescocks. Word has been received here that Frank Loosley, cousin of Ray mond S. Loosley, Fort Klamath, Is Improving. On Nov. 28, Loosley suffered serious Injuries when at tacked by an infuriated bull at the Loosley ranch at Cave Junction. The animal crushed him against the wall, breaking several ribs. He is just barely able to sit up in bed at this time, although gradually improving. At one time, Frank Loosley was in business in Klam ath Falls, where he owned and op erated the Spring Street Iron Works before leaving due to 111 health. He has relatives in Klam ath Falls as well as Fort Klamath and the south end of Klamath Coun ty- New Year's Eve was celebrated In homes throughout Wood River Valley by watch party gatherings of friends and relatives who saw the old year out and 1954 arrive, ushered in by a light snowfall. On the evening of Saturday, Jan. 2, winds of high velocity lashed the valley, bring more snow in their wake. The landscape hereabouts has now assumed its normal win ter look. Fields are now covered with snow, with more to come, ac cording to weather reports. State snow plows manned by the local highway crew were put Saturday night, clearing tne roaas lor trav el. Overnight holiday guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stra han were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mc-. Kim. Tim and Terry. Klamath Falls, who spent New Year's Eve and day. Main diversion was wat ching televised programs on the TV set recently installed at the Strahan home. Here as New Year's Day guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wes ley Smith were their son-in-law, daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Fisher, Jimmie and Phyllis. Christmas was celebrated bv the family group in Klamath Falls, where the Fishers lived. They, came north for the holidays from Willow Creek, Calif., where thev returned Saturday. Jan. 2, Fisher is engaged in logging with his brothers in the Willow Creek vicinity. Arrivinir Thursday to spend the New Year's holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Zumbrun and Billy were her parents and brother, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wimer and ueimar (Buster) Knox, Ashland. Former Fort Klamathites, the group turned Sunday to their present home in Ashland. New Year's Day dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth M. Loosley were Mr. and Mrs. How ard Holliday, and children (Mrs. Loosley's granddaughter and fam ily) and Holliday s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Holliday, all of Klam ath Falls. Also present for the tur key feast was Betsy McQuiston, who assists Mrs. Loosley as clerk in her general merchandise store here. Betsy is the daughter of Mr.1 and Mrs, A. F. McQuiston, now living in Long Beach, Calif. Mr. and Mrs. William c. Martin spent New Year's Day in Tulelake as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Mac McHenry. Mr, and Mrs. Howard Olson, Vo- dlne and Christine returned Sun day from Medford, where they spent the New Year holidays with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Paup, and Olsons stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Felix Rous seau, formerly oi La review ana now Medford residents. After spending Christmas and New Year's at their home at Blue River, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tay lor of the Modoc Lumber Co. camp have returned here to await resumption of logging operations by the company in the spring. He is employed as timber taller. Saturday visitors here were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Ferguson and children, Klamath Falls, who vis ited old friends, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Edwards, Mr. and Mrs. Wes ton Engle and family. They lived here before moving to Klamath Falls a few years ago. College students returning Sun day to resume their studies were Bill Vaden, Carrel Wilson, and Jo Ann Sisemore, all bound for Ore gon State; Joyce Copeland, who re turned to the University of Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Nicholson have gone back to Corvallis after spend ing the holidays here and at Klamath Agency with their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Nichol son, Mr. and Mrs. W. Hobbs.
