The winning entry, entitled "Prince of Peace," follows: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men of good will." (Luke 2:14-15 This quotation tells us that Christ 1 was going to bring peaoe to the : world when he came. The world ; then wasn't in such bad shape as! it is now. People nowadays ate searching for peace from the bloody wars that they look for it ! in tne wrong places. A few small voices realize that for peace man must turn to God instead of just talking matters over with the enemy, but the stubborn world just pushes) the truth aside not realizing that it is the truth. Why did Christ come into the world if not to bring peace and free us from the clutches of the devil and sin? That reminds me, Christmas is near. Are you awaiting the day in great anticipation because it is Christ's birthday or because of all the nice gifts you think you'll get? What I am getting at is, how do you celebrate Christmas? Is it all a big time with a big dinner after a late sleep, or do you get up, go to church of your preference, then pay visits to the sick or lonely. sharing your dinner and presents with such people? Remember Christ said, "The least you do unto my brethren you do unto Me." What He meant was that whatever you do for the poor, the lonely, or the unwanted. He accepts as a personal favor to Himself. That's all I have to say and have a Merry Christmas in the right way. Safety Warning' For Hostesses Last year approximately 1400 persons were killed and move than 40.000 injured in traffic accidents during the holiday party season from Dec. 20 until Jan, 1. The majority of these accidents oc curred when the victims were on their way home from parties. L. S. Harris, of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Ad ministrators, has some suggestions for the reduction of the holiday ac cident rate. He says, in part: 'The only persons who know whether a driver should be per mitted to drive are the driver himself, his passengers, and the host whose establishment or home he has just left. Those who give parties at Yule time should see to it that no guest drives who ts un safe to handle a car. 'For taking precautionary steps at the source, there is a great deal of merit in the spreading custom of considerate hosts of serving cof fee as the final drink of the eve ningthe 'one for the road.' While it is not suggested that a cup of; coffee will make an unsober driver completely sober, it is felt by a growing number of safety author ities that the acknowledged steadying effect of coffee after al cohol would have beneficial re sults. Obviously, a drink of coffee as the final round wilt leave the de parting guest in better shape to handle a car than if the final round ! is something stronger. Another1 benefit to be derived from serving a sobering one for the road' is that by serving such a drink for safety's sake just as ne departs, the host will bring attention at the psycho logical moment, to the need for caution. "With approximately 3 million more cars on the road this year auring tne holidays than a year ago, casualties will rise , accord ingly unless hosts in public places and private homes and their guests pay a fraction of the at tention to highway safety that they do to having a good time." Paisley By MKS. CLYDE BKAMLETT1C One of the most enjoyable events of the season was held at the Val ley Palls Community Hall Satur day evening. Dec. 12, when 32 mem bers of Antelope Chapter- OSEA held their annual Christmas din ner. The dining room was decorated with the Yuletide bells and stream ers and the table centerpiece was a large Nativity scene., Large tap ers were lighted and under their soft glow the group sang Christmas carols. Turkey, duck, goose, pheasant and chicken, salads, hot vege-, tables, pickles and pumpkin pie' were on the menu. After the din ner a business meeting was presid ed over by the chapter president, Clyde Bramlette, and the chap ter's delegate to the convention held at Astoria last month was pres ent to give his report. At the close of the meeting an exchange of gifts brought much en joyment as some of the gifts were milk giving cows and crying dolls. A first aid and civil defense course will be given in Paisley the second week in January. Mr. Brown of the State Accident Commission will be present to conduct the course. A. L. Daley, local garage man, will receive the names of anyone wishing to take the course. It is hoped the people will respond to this as it would be very helpful in case of an attack.
