Egypt (flV-Hopes for a solution of the Anglo-Egyptian dis pute over the Suez arose today alter Vice Premier Oamal Abder Nasser said Egypt is willing to make the giant base available to the West In an emergency. I Nasser said in an Interview last night the West could use the base providing Egyptian sovereignty was honored. He insisted that Egypt should have the final say-so on when non-Egyptian troops should be admitted. . This point has been a major factor, blocking' agreement over evacuation of the su.ooo Brmsn troops now defending the 104-mile waterway. . . t Nasser . denied earlier reports yesterday that Egypt had decided to break . off current informal talks with Britain over the canal zone's future. . . , His statement last night was the first public expression by a, re sponsible official that Egypt might allow the West back in the Suez under certain conditions. It was received with enthusiasm by Brit ish circles in Cairo, which had been worried by the earlier reports of a breakdown In the Anglo-Egyp tian contacts. However, it was not considered a commitment' that Egypt would Join the Middle East Defense Organization (MEDO) proposed by the West. Germany Wl Two hundred Jewish' displaced persons last night ended -a two-day hunger strike protesting expulsions to Is rael, t The demonstrators, camped since Wednesday in the headquar ters building of the American Joint Distribution Committee, wen back to their camp after German authorities promised to halt de portation of Jews to Israel until the Bonn government has made a de cision in the case. The protest started after three DP's were expelled and 80 others faced expulsion. They had gone to Israel after the war out returned without legal entry permits when they failed to find jobs. Labor Secretary Urges Teenagers Back to School WASHINGTON Ut Secretary of Labor Durkln urged teenagers to day to resist the lure of "plentiful jobs at good pay", and to return to school this lall. Durkln recalled that last year 1-3 of the nation's 16-year-olds and 17-year-olds dropped out of school after taking summer Jobs. McKay Project To Continue WASHINGTON Wt interior Sec retary McKay announced Thurs, day continuation of a program to aid in the salvage of timber from O It C lands In Western Oregon. He said the Bureau of Land Management's regional adminis trator at Portland has been given additional authority to issue tem porary permits for rights-of-way for logging roads. Such permits would be for two year periods, subject to one-year extensions. They may be issued to lumber operators who nave enter ed into agreements on a substan tial road system or to applicants negotiating for long-term agree' litems. McKay said the administrator also now has authority to issue short-term permits to cross govern ment land for salvage of damaged or (ead trees along with cutting of any adjacent green timber need ed to make an economic logging job. Edward Woozley, bureau admin. istrator, said damaged timber should be removed because It de teriorates in value' and also Is a fire and Insect hazard to green timber. Bastlan Thursday ordered the Air Force to return former Sgt. Robert W. Toth of Pittsburgh from Korea to Wash ington on Sept. 1. Toth is charged with murder in the slaying of a South Korean civilian.
