Seattle staged a spine-tingling ninth inning rally Thursday night in Seattle to whip Los Angeles, 5-4, scoring three runs as it overcame the Angels' 4-2 advantage. Excursion engineers are having a wonderful time plotting new jaunts for Suds ville addicts. A (99.50 package lured 500 of them, complete with tin-pans, to Brooklyn, adding to the general din and contusion at Ebbets Field. They went home bitterly disappointed, but no less enthusiastic. When the Braves returned to County stadium, they found five dates of the 17-game stand already sold out, excluding 7500 bleacher seats that are cobbled up before each contest. With space for most premium, rabid customers were purchasing perches for the Sep tember stay. The total attendance for 39 home dates was ,865,9211. If the Braves continue to average 22,023. as they have, another 377 000 will be added and 1,242,928 will have seen Milwaukee games with a long September run to come. Russ Lynch of the Milwaukee Journal first ran a thermometer "race" comparing this year's Mil waukee attendance with the meas ly 284,000 who paid to see the Braves in Boston last trip. That, as expected, was strictly no con test. Milwaukee topped the Hub figure in the first 12 appointments. Sports Editor Lynch switched to the Red Sox, and it was still no contest. But in the 11th Portland scored twice, and the veteran knuckleballer, Wil lie Ramsdcll, pitched the last of the Uth to hold the Seals for a 2-0 verdict. Boemler struck out 16 batters but walked eight, while Elliott fanned only three and walked four. For a time it looked as though the teams were all set to repeat their 22-ln-ing marathon of Wednesday. Al Gettel, the PCL's leading pitcher, notched his 21st victory as Oakland smothered San Diego 12-1. Gettel held the Padres to five hits, while the Oaks got 15 off three San Diego hurlers. The Padres won the series, however, four games to one. Sacramento, which had beaten Hollywood only three times In 18 starts, finally got the range and came out with a 10-2 decision. All the players on both teams will be under the age limit next year and in line for Junior Legion competition. The twin bill winds up the season for the Cokes, who won the League 4 title but missed a chance at the state playoffs in a two straight loss in the district squabble. The figure filberts can show you this isn't so, that no matter what happens in the Yanks' four games with the Chicago White Sox start ing today all eight teams in the league will still remain potential flag winners. , But if the. Yankees should win all lour those fellows with the fig ures are going to have a mighty hard time convincing many folks that the race isn't over. New York led Chicago by five games going into today's contest. Following tomorrow's doublehead- cr and a single game Sunday the Yankees will have 46 games left to play. The White Sox will have 44. GOOD AS GOLD A 9-game lead tills late tn the season normally is as good as gold. A White Sox sweep on the other hand cutting the Yankee margin to a single game would turn It mio a real dog fight. The White Sox are bound to be the sentimental favorites the coiuv try over since they represent hope and opportunity against the long entrenched Yankees. It might seem a lot to expect of them, or any oilier club, to win four in a row from the Yankees on their own home grounds. The Sox, however, have done it before. They have won their last nine at Yankee Stadium, dating back to July, 1952. In their final preps for the big series the Yankees defeated Detroit 5-2 yesterday without much effort while the White Sox rallied for five Five Boats Qualify For Gold Cup Races SEATTLE W Five boats were qualified Friday for Sunday's Gold Cup speedboat races on Lake Wash ington and the queen of them all has served notice she won't give up her throne without a struggle. The notice was served Thursday hv Slo-Mo-Shun IV. winner of the race in 1050 and 1952, which averaged 107.5 miles an hour in the three-lap qualifying rounds to break the 103.746 record set, last year by Miss Pepsi. Driver of the Seattle boat was Joe Taggcrt, who replaced Paul Sawyer tills wee?", and who had on ly a few minutes to familiarize himself with the boat's controls be fore he took it out on the lake for a practice lap. . .
