he was confined," the Judge com
mented. He sentenced Rose to two

ing his truck on State Route 168
near here during a rainstorm
yesterday. Too late, he saw the
red caution lights blinking at a
railroad crossing.
He slammed on the brakes. The
truck started .skidding. It skidded
all the way . across - the tracks,
clear of the approaching train, and
Smith was about, to breathe a sigh
of relief when the vehicle suddenly
did a U-turn and skidded right
back on the tracks.
The train smacked into the truck.
Smith walked away unhurt but the
truck was destroyed. . :

Sheriff Aubrey McDonald, of Wal
ton County said the town marshal
here was arrested last night after
four teen-age boys testified he paid
them 25 cents to kill a homeless
dog.
The sheriff said the marshal,
John Donaldson, and the four
youths were arrested on charges
of cruelty to an animal. All five
were released In bonds of $100

the sheriff said, that the marshal
offered one of them 25 cents to
