Wl The new Miss Universe is a little angel lace tom France, 18-year-old Christians Martel. , The brunette charmer from Paris defeated a gorgeous galaxy of contestants from virtually every corner of the globe to win the sil ver and gold crown last night. Miss Martel, who openly aspires to a screen career and has had bit' parts in three French films, edged out blonde Miss United States, Myrna Hansen of Chicago, and Japan's diminutive Kinuko Ito. They finished second and third. Just ahead of Mexico's vivacious Ana Lepe Jimenez and Australia's Maxine Morgan. , TUe Frencn lass became the. sec ond 18-year-old to win. the Miss Universe crown. The first winner, In last year's Inaugural contest, was Armi Kuusela of Finland. . "Mala ouil" were the lovely winner's words on winning the award. It's the French equivalent of "Oh, no!" although a literal translation is "But yes." During the business session, ten tative plans were made for building an outdoor fireplace on church grounds, the project to be under taken jointly by tno church, c. I. Club and Fort Klamath Business Association, according to plans made at Thursday s meeting. ' Local Boy Scouts will be asked to help with work of erecting the fireplace. , A definite date of Saturday eve ning, Aug. 33, was set for the annual church benefit dinner to be given In the C. X, Clubhouse, with members of the C. I. Club cooperating In the affair. Proceeds will go Into the special fund being raised for purchasing pews for the local church.
